My son took me for burgers as he felt that he'd found the best burger restaurant in Winnipeg. He was very excited to share his experience, so we went. I had no preconceived notions of what to expect. The operation is a freestanding hamburger stand with no dine-in tables, an enclosed order area with an entrance door and a separate exit door but don't be fooled by the low budget exterior. You are greeted by a massive menu board and a welcoming staff. You place your order, and once ready, your name is called for pick up. There is a limited number of seats at round , picnic style tables outside which were freshly painted. We saw other patrons grab takeout and drive away. For this reason, I'm not sure if they are open in the winter but if so, I would imagine that it would be strictly takeout. If you are looking for fancy, new-world burgers with alfalfa sprouts and smoked Gouda for example, then you might not find that here . What they serve is fresh, hot, tasty burgers in a traditional way with a MASSIVE amount of fries. REAL. GOOD . FRIES!!! The portions as I mentioned are huge, the food is fresh and the overall quality is very good. They have an option for half portions. Try what I feel are Winnipeg's best french fries with cinnamon salt...they are seriously tasty. I'm looking forward to going back to sample more of the menu as there is a lot to choose from. If you are interested in a no-nonsense burger experience, I would highly recommend based on this...
Read moreThis place is great. Check out their menu and if you see something you like just go get it. You can stop reading here honestly. Food is great (even reheated), location is easy enough to get to, parking lot is small but has plenty of street parking on side roads, hours have gotten longer than they used to be. Some patio tables available though I can't imagine between the dates of May 9 to June-ish 2021 that you can even use them but they exist. There's a 711 about 50 meters away so you can go all out on your cheat day. Place does get busy during peak nom nom hours but you can call ahead and order if you don't like line ups. If you do like line ups or don't care it isn't an overly long wait for food and for the PoGo players they have their very own stop.
I broke a tooth eating here once. Nothing to do with the quality of the food, tooth was chipped and a slight breeze would have finished the job. I can't eat here without thinking about it. You know that cringy feeling you get when you bite into something (like a hard tooth) that isn't supposed to be there? I still get that but the food is so good that I don't even care. That's how good it is!
Locally owned business that contributes to the city it resides in if you need that extra nudge to try them out. Stop reading, go order something and try the cinnamon fries....
Read moreI hidden Gem in St James area. Might be a tad more expensive compared to McDonalds or Wendy’s but I feel it’s worth it. Place might appear to be a tad sketchy but don’t let that scare you off.;This is Winnipeg after all. Parking in the area is limited but most of the parking is behind the building. Service has always been good. Staff are friendly. The menu is pretty big but if you’re craving burgers, fries, poutine, hot dogs or a thick milkshake this is the place to go. Portions are quite large so for most humans getting the burger and fries will fill you up. This place has a lot of local Manitoba flair, using things like dill sauces on your burger. They have a wide range of beef or chicken burgers. The burgers are pretty messy so don’t go wearing your favourite light shirts. Be prepared to get some sort of sauce all over you. The fries are awesome! They give you the option to put normal salt, Cajun salt or cinnamon salt which is pretty cool. They have some seating but it’s quite limited. Would be best to grab it to go and take it home or to a nearby park. I’ve been here multiple times and have never had issues. Will be continue to go in the future! If you’re military or a first responder you get 10%.
