PLACE WAS FILTHY AND DISGUSTING. YUCK. I visited on a dry and mild spring afternoon, the first of which after a long winter. The place was empty of customers, but every table was dirty, with discarded napkins, straw wrapper papers askew, and salt and other food debris on every. single. table. While waiting for my food, I began to look around. The first thing that jumped out at me was the floor. There wasn't a single other customer or call that came in, so there wasn't a lot of distracting business, but the floors were absolutely grimy and nasty, and looked like it hadnt been mopped or cleaned in a weeks. Plural. Then, my curious gaze noticed the air conditioner. The air conditioner sits perched just below the ceiling, above the customer dining area (seats and tables below), and it was so vile that I have never seen a unit so dirty in my life. The filters, which were exposed (because clearly it had lived a hard life) had such a dark brown grimy furry coating on it, that none of the white frame, or clear filter media could be seen. The thing hadn't been cleaned in YEARS. Literally, it was so putrid vile and unclean that dust was caked into a crust, and was now able to fall upon customers, and, inevitably, their food. Looking to the piping/wiring that ran to it was even more caked in crud and grunge. The final straw was the shelving. There is an interior half-wall where a steel grate shelf rests upon it, and juts out over the edge of the wall, hanging over the edge of tables. Let the pictures speak for themselves. IT WAS FREAKIN' REPULSIVE AND REVOLTING. It was so messy and scuzzy that there was this bizarre dust coating that mixed with the grease particles in the air, and began to trap dust, hair and whatever else. This place was so dirty and gross I know my stomach will turn every time I drive past it, and I will never step foot in there again. This place was so cruddy and gross that I would be surprised if they remain in business. I will never return, and can't, in good conscience, recommend anyone risk their health dining there. If this is what they're comfortable with being on clear display in public areas, what do their other areas and food handling/storage areas look like? DISGUSTING.

TLDR: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazing, tasty, hearty burger. Delicious fries and tasty poutine, in a friendly, warm and welcoming atmosphere. Went here a couple days ago with a friend based on her recommendation that these were the best burgers in town... It did not disappoint!! We showed up at 6pm and it was busy but we were welcomed as we entered and ordered quickly. We ordered a deluxe burger, a double cheese burger, and a small fries. The owner was there and was very friendly and struck up conversation. Upon telling him it was my first time there and I love burgers he was excited and we talked while our food was being prepared. After a short wait our food was ready and to my surprise he had made me an extra order of his own creation (fries covered in cheese and half gravy half chilli). First off the basic fries were very tasty, hot and crispy. The tables have all the extra seasonings and condiments you require so I added seasoning salt and immediatley crushed my order of fries. So good. I started working on his house poutine he made me and... GODDAMN IT WAS GOOD. Very filling and rich loved it. Now to the actual burger. The burger was served on a fresh tasting soft sesame seed bun and was a hefty beast. My first bite was heavenly. So much meat, the homemade patties really knocked it out of the park. Fresh lettuce and melty oozing cheese really put it over the top. Overall I had an amazing experience and wish I could give it 6/5 stars. Made a new loyal customer off that one visit. Highly recommend you give it a try if you haven't yet.

I have been to this burger restaurant a few times and it has been delicious every time. Orderd the deluxe cheeseburger with bacon and small fries with gravey. The burger was very large, sloppy and awesome! You will need napkins for sure. A large patty with chili( super tasty)pickles, tomato, onion, lettuce, mustard and mayo served on a bun that can hold it all together. But I would recommend just to dive in and enjoy. The home cut fries were crispy and the gravey was good as well. This order was done by pick up and everything was still hot when we got home ,a huge bonus. The restaurant is very small with only a few tables which can be busy at times so you may have to eat outside right on Portage ave. ( no eating inside due to covid 19 at this time) This location is very clean and gives off a small but cool old school vibe. The menu is pretty good not too overwhelming and easy to make a choice. When walking in your greated with a friendly Hello and if you have trouble deciding what you would like the nice guy behind the counter will help you out. There is Parking on the side streets or right in front on Portage ave. If your in the St. James area hit up The Burger Place you will not be disappointed if your a burger lover.

Very disappointed on the service and quality. Not only did I wait 20 minutes for my food (mushrooms dbl and small fries) where maybe there was one other person ahead of me and when I finally got my order, my fries were cold. I'm guessing my pager wasn't working, that is why the wait, but you would think after a couple of minutes, an employee would come outside to find me and give me my order. No apologies for wait on order... I'm guessing while my order was sitting on counter, my fries were getting cold. Anyways employee finally came out after 20 min to give me my order and once I tasted the cold fries, I returned them to wait in car for fresh ones. While I waited in car, I decided to eat my burger of which it was so messy, the fixings were getting on my seat and clothes. That's beside the point as I knew it was going to be messy as they load up the burger, but I thought I should eat in the car as I didn't want the burger to get cold as I was waiting for my fries. Anyways I didn't eat all of the burger because it was just to messy to eat in the car. Anyways back to the fries... the cook gave me a half hearted apology, but it would of been appreciated if I got a larger fry or reimbursed for my fries at least for my trouble of the long wait and the cold fries. I'm guessing my whole experience at The Burger Place was a result of a faulty pager. But what made the experience even worse was the young kids who were running the place and did not have a clue on how to give proper customer service... Definitely will not be going back anytime soon, especially on a Sunday where it is apparent that the young staff seem to be running the place. Again very disappointing as I was craving the burger and fries fir some time now, since my last visit to The...

First, at 9:32 p.m. I was told they are "actually closing right away". Then annoyed, he allows me to order since I can be there in 10 mins. I order a large fries, a double mushroom burger, a cheeseburger well done, gravy and a chicken gyro..so over $40 with the tip (which i shouldn't have given him, seeing as he was not wanting me to even place my order!!!). Anyhow, the fries...were old, cold, and tiny little pieces, not one was longer than 3 inches long! And weren't even to the top of the tiny, tiny, tiny little brown bag!!! $6.50 plus tax and my 4 yr old grandson ate most of them himself..im serious! None left for my husband or myself! So now we have this yummy gravy with no fries! We usually get so many fries that ordering 1 large is plenty for the two of us, nope! I wonder how small the small size is...I actually don't think there's a smaller bag than this one! Burger wasn't well done either. I am just so disappointed 😞, I've eaten here for many, many years, my kids even worked here as children!!! Haven't even tried my gyro yet...I'm making a salad to go with it, from the fridge!! Anyhow, lesson learned..? Don't order before close..? Stupid, when it's on my way home from work! I also drove past many burger joints, including the new George's burgers on mcphillips, 2 Juniors restaurants, 5 guys, and many more, because my family enjoys the food, and we like to support the owner of a local st. James restaurant..we can't afford to eat out as often as we used to, so this really sucks! Def wasn't worth the $, or the...
