Sour and racist impression for oversweeted and over baked. I travelled in over 50 countries and went to bakeries in over 5 continents, from small communities of a few thousands to population of millions. Defintenetly no more than 2 stars quality / taste wise ; crumbly dry tart, lemon bar not sour ... was mostly sugar with color ,; wallnuts were stalled in the other pastery. Lack of technique, lack of freshness. The worse part; I never experienced that much racism and condescending service... and I am not even a BIPOC person . I was wearing indigenous jewelry and have a disability. Discrimination guaranteed for anyone slightly different ? Oddly designed system of "service " where there is no menu for gelato, prefilled containers reachable by cudtomers, staff don't move and yell at you when you self serve ,but they said "gelato are all over there ... with the menu". Customers get yelt at for self serve, but no staff moved to serve. Reason stated with big smiles in loop , totally repeated ,/ lesrned behaviour " everyone steal in this city"; No I don't steal, I am paying and was paying when it was atiil repeated.. I was looking for a long flight ( that I worked and paid for, not stealed) snacks not from a chain and encourage a local business. So , if you never experienced racism or discrimination in your life or you need to do a project on racism or discrimination , this business could be a "great " example of discrimination, racism, microagression. I never paid attention to the 1 star comment about service, and racism , but will after this experience. I gave 2 stars to food as I did not get sick/ did not find contaminants or mold , but it was more generic and bland that "processed mass produce desert". I will never go back and no, I did not steal "like in everybody steal in this city" staff who keeps repeating this with a big sarcastic smile. Those staff are the future toxic bullies of tomorrow. I was ashamed of the state of Canada ( yes, I am Canadian and yes my ancestors were Candadian too ) has become after visting this business...
Read moreI went to pick up a cake order today and was waiting for my turn to talk to someone. It wasnât too busy when I arrived. Only one couple before me and a woman with her child after me. Kirsten (or maybe Krista? Couldnât really see the name tag) was helping the couple before me so I waited as other workers also seemed busy. As soon as the couple was done, Kirsten made eye contact with me 2 times standing infront of the display case but did not say anything to me at all. She then walks over to the white woman (and her child) who walked in right after me (standing off to the side) and asks if sheâs been helped, she says she has then Kirsten apologizes for the âlong waitâ. She turns around and then makes eye contact with me again as I am still waiting for someone to talk to me and she still says nothing and starts âlooking busyâ. Finally another worker helped me. She took 10 minutes to find my order (which I didnât mind because sometimes things get mixed up) but then I noticed Kirsten and another worker go up to that other woman again and apologize for the long wait and they were chit chatting away. When I finally got my order nobody said anything to me. No âsorry for the long waitâ or âhave a nice dayâ, I had been there close to 20 minutes already. The girl helping me seemed too concerned about saying bye to her friend. I was the only POC in the store and obviously the service experience was a lot different for me judging by how others were being treated (friendly and being greeted) as I was standing there observing. I thought maybe I was reading too much into the situation but I scrolled through the reviews and found other Asian people who had a similar...
Read moreUpdate: The company did reach out after I sent an e-mail with our order number to rectify the situation.
They sent a new box, with their new wedding sampler mini cakes. These were much better than the cupcakes we had; the icing was smooth and had a creamy texture, there was no chunks in it at all. The carrot cake was moist and the cream cheese filling was yummy. The vanilla berry was our favourite again, it was moist and the raspberry filling is delicious, I could eat that alone by the spoonful. The red velvet was alright, not our favourite but a good texture. The salted caramel cake we did find to be a bit dry and still not our favourite flavour.
Overall the cakes were a much better experience than we originally had, and the response from Krista (owner) was very pleasant.
Original Review: We ordered the wedding cake tasting box as we are getting married at the end of the year, it comes with 4 of the luxe cupcakes with sugar cookies on top. It came packaged beautifully and the cupcakes looked very nice. Sadly all of the cupcakes were hard on the outside, very dry inside and crumbled as we cut them/bit into them. The tops came off and were almost crunchy? I am not sure if they were old but they were not good.
The cookies and cream, and salted caramel flavours had a very weird taste to them. The icing for the cookies and cream flavour has strange white soft chewy bits. All together the icing is a really off putting texture, and had no flavour what so ever, we ended up scraping it all off.
The best part was the raspberry compote in the vanilla cupcake. Overall this was extremely disappointing for a...
