I visited Thermea for a relaxing solo spa day in August 2023 on a Friday. I arrived at 10 am and throughout the day, the spa was not super busy and there were plenty of areas to relax without being surrounded by people. You are required to make a reservation online ahead of time and then scan in when you arrive and then receive a wristband to access the locker (where there is a towel and robe). The Aufguss sauna rituals were my favourite part of my visit! They occur every hour on the hour in the Finlandia sauna. The gong will sound five minutes before the ritual is set to begin as a reminder to head to the sauna. I would highly recommend participating in at least one of these! I attended three rituals - one was the Arboreal (which used branches to wave the steam around) - and two discovery rituals. Each one was unique and personalized with the essential oils used on the snowballs and the artisan’s towel/branch waving techniques and choreographed moves. It was amazing to watch and breathe in the essential oil scents, while feeling the intense heat and steam wash over you. After each ritual, it’s recommended to go to the cold plunge which felt exhilarating! I completed the thermal cycle numerous times during my six hour visit - hot, cold, relax and repeat. I loved the hot tub pool, the vapour steam saunas (eucalyptus and orange oils), the exfoliation area, indoor relax room with peaceful music and ergonomic tiled benches beside a fire, and the Barik barrel sauna. The grounds at the spa are gorgeous and I love the natural landscaping with prairie plants, rocks and grasses around the pools. There are infused water stations in the saunas and herbal tea in the relax room. You can find fire pits and chairs around the property for relaxing and a cute treed beach area with a boardwalk path, sand, lots of lounging chairs, a place to order wood fired pizzas and drinks, hammocks, day beds and a misting area. The restaurant has lots of indoor seating in the dining rooms with nice views and there is outdoor patio seating as well. I ordered the Sweet Potato Farmer’s Feast Bowl and an Orange Blossom Sangria which were incredible and flavourful!! You don’t need to bring your wallet as the restaurant scans your locker bracelet which automatically charges your credit card. Being at Thermea feels like you’ve been transported to Scandinavia. It’s peaceful, calming and beautiful. The property is surrounded by trees and on the curve of the Red River and doesn’t feel like you’re in the middle of the city at all. It’s a perfect place to unwind, slow your pace, and be in the present moment. I recommend bringing a book and water bottle with you in the spa (you can hang your bag on one of the many hooks around the pools). My only complaint about my Thermea experience is the parking lot. It’s gravel and filled with huge potholes. You’d think they’d be able to maintain the parking area or pave it to offer a more enjoyable experience getting to and from the spa.

Edit* Changes: they are now taking reservations for the thermal experience. It used to be walk in only and now no longer really allow walk ins. They offer military discount. 15% off for Canadian armed forces. 10% off USA military members. I've been here numerous times since and it's service has been improved from when they first opened. Their price point is very attractive compared to the other spa offerings in the city. Protip: they say you have 3 towels but if it's wet you can ask to swap it with a dry one. They can be very insistent on keeping quiet, so for the naturally louder people, it can be frustrating at times. They have a tea (no caffeine) and water station at the bank in the relaxing room. The 2 steam room "flavors" are either eucylyptus or orange. The scrubs are lavender and eucylyptus. There are 2 saunas. One is larger, the other a smaller round one. We find if we want to talk we head to the smaller one since the attendants tend not to have an issue there. In the summer there is a ton of areas to lounge in. I find that I don't normally need to rent a robe when I go. I usually just use towels because I don't like a wet robe, which happens if you go in and out of pools. They are limiting towel usage now. You get 3 in your locker. You can ask to switch to a dry one however. At the restaurant... Servers are very friendly, but often absent. I have had some fantastic service with servers I really enjoyed chatting with. I just don't know where they go? I am unsure if it is purposeful since it is a spa, so maybe they want you to have a leisurely meal. If i go here for food though, I feel I have a lot less time in the rest of Thermea. I almost always eat there when I go, except for the last time. I ended up with so much extra time I didn't know what to do with myself. Food can be slow to be delivered. Expect to pay spa prices. Mocktails were $8. Food presentation is beautiful. I really enjoy the Q Water with fruit. They used to serve them for $3 for unlimited water but now you only get one liter. Menu has been considerably shortened from my first visits. It's more condensed. For a more filling meal, get the burger. It comes with a salad or soup and is delicious. Skip the tomato soup. Most of the people tried to eat it at the table but everyone rejected it. One person thought it was ok at first... But no, decided in the end they still didn't want to eat it. My last 2 visits we did have excellent service.

From the moment we arrived, we were met with an unwelcoming demeanor from the staff, who appeared disinterested in acknowledging us. This was unexpected, as our global spa experiences, including those in Winnipeg, have always started with a warm welcome. Unfortunately, this was not the case at Thermea. The staff seemed visibly annoyed that we were in line for assistance. Upon entering the changing rooms, I was met with complete disarray. The space was overcrowded, and my assigned locker was inconveniently located in a high-traffic area. As I attempted to access my locker, a staff member collided with me while pushing a large black laundry bin, striking me forcefully with the bin. When I reported this incident to the front desk and requested a new locker, they responded with excuses about the locker assignment process and barely acknowledged the situation. The second locker provided was situated in a cramped corner with at least ten other women trying to change. It took approximately 15 minutes just to gain access to it. My partner also experienced similar chaos in the changing room, ultimately abandoning his belongings quickly to escape the overcrowded space. When I finally emerged, I hoped the worst of the chaos was behind me, but unfortunately, it persisted throughout the facility. Every space—the steam rooms, saunas, relaxation areas, nap rooms, and pools—was overrun with loud, disruptive guests. No staff were present to enforce the expected quiet atmosphere. In the eucalyptus steam room, for instance, a couple engaged in a loud and heated conversation, ignoring other guests’ reminders about the silent-room policy. We left and proceeded to the dry sauna, only to encounter the same issue: loud chatter and disruptive laughter. Hoping for a respite, we attended a class, but even there, guests continued talking throughout the session, despite the teacher’s presence and reminder that it was a silent class. Strangely, the instructor did not even address the interruptions, even when guests were speaking directly in front of her. Seeking a quieter environment, we moved to the pool area, only to be met with groups of visibly intoxicated individuals loudly conversing, with wine glasses scattered around and feet propped near the pool edge directly near our faces. Frustrated, I approached the front desk and requested staff intervention. The attendant appeared annoyed and said she would notify the manager, but no action was taken. Our attempts to find solace in the nap rooms were also unsuccessful. The space was filled with disruptive groups, including loud, giggling individuals repeatedly triggering the automatic doors and arguing couples. There was no place on-site that offered peace or quiet. The lack of cleanliness of the spa was alarming. Both pools had countless wine glasses and paper cups propped at the sides, accumulating snow and cms away from falling into the pool, or worse causing injury. One staff member was even seen fishing garbage out of one of the pools. Toward the end of our visit, an employee (Tess) randomly approached us to inquire about our experience. We hesitantly shared our concerns, including the persistent noise and lack of staff intervention, to which she suggested we should have done our part and notified staff “in the moment.” This was particularly disheartening, as we had done so multiple times. Tess offered to provide vouchers as a gesture of goodwill, which gave us a glimmer of hope that the night might end on a positive note. When we met Tess however, she appeared to have forgotten us claiming she didn’t recognize us, as we apparently looked different from 30 minutes earlier. She quickly jotted down our names and a vague summary of our feedback, handed us a card for further comments, and dismissed us. This entire experience left us disillusioned and resolved never to return to Thermea. The lack of organization, disregard for guest concerns, and absence of a serene atmosphere fundamentally contradicted what one expects from a spa experience.

I booked over the phone this time because I had a coupon from my last experience where the hot tub was undergoing renovations. There was no mention of the restaurant being closed by the person over the phone. I had planned this visit weeks in advance for my wife for our 5 year wedding anniversary. We were very excited to have a nice lunch and dinner and enjoy a day of relaxation. When I asked to speak with someone about the food options and how we did not find any of them appetizing what we got was "did you not see the mention online of the restaurant being closed?" To me this is a very ignorant response and now I understand why. I went on your website just to see this "mention", it does say it but as soon as you start picking the date, it goes away. It is then not mentioned through the rest of the booking process. This was a very easy thing to miss and is probably the reason you had so many complaints. Either way, the staff on duty (the manager did not come out to speak to me) "LET" my wife and I order food to the front door and then eat it outside the premises. This was not the accommodations I would expect from a place like this and it was somewhat of an embarrassment to eat my meal from "to-go" containers outside of the grounds. To make matters worse, I was not given any utensils from the delivery driver so I went inside to ask if they had any I could use and they informed me that they can't wash them so they can't hand them out. Moments later after being inside the grounds and getting our "free drink" from the manager, we stumbled upon a whole tray of plastic forks. This was quite an unbelievably negative experience. I hope a competitor opens up and soon as we need this kind of experience in Winnipeg. There has been so many negative experiences that it's starting to get difficult to justify spending money here again. My recommendation for next time the company has to do any renovation would be to put a huge 50% off because of (insert reason here) across the actual thumbnail for selecting any package. What was put on the website was clearly not enough as you wouldn't have had as many complaints if it was. There were empty tables in the restaurant that we could have used to eat our meal, you could have blocked us off with some COVID stantions left over and the other guests would be none the nonethewiser. You have all your guests email and cell phone numbers, text a reminder a few times before their visit that the restaurant is closed during your visit times and rebooking options. I will be back to the establishment because I really do enjoy every experience I have there (other than this one) and there is no other option like it in Winnipeg. Please learn from this. Update - have not heard from a manager so just your unoriginal, canned, corporate message back to the customer.

My brother and I went here to celebrate my birthday and get some relaxation for a day. It was sunny that day, and a weekday yet there were too many people during our visit. This was my first time here and so far, I had the best spa experience in Canada. I’m a nature lover and I so love all the beautiful smell and aroma of the whole place. The facilities are clean, they provide you as many towels you need, robes, and lockers. Lockers were spacious for your personal belongings. They also have blow dryers in their changing room, so you don’t need to bring one. Water is also free - you can choose from water infused with oranges or cucumber with mint. And if you want a tea, it’s free too! The VAPORO was my favorite room, EUCALYPTUS and ORANGE vapor room was extremely satisfying and the exfoliation is really a plus! (I love the lavender). I also enjoyed FINLANDIA. I attended 4 different rituals during my visit. Everything was so relaxing, calming, and very entertaining. The snow balls infused with different essential oils was the highlight of this experience. We decided to take our lunch here as well. Plating is fancy and beautiful but I would rate 5 out of 10 for the taste of the food and the price. I would say their pricing is too much for the taste, don’t expect much. But all in all, the experience is worth a try. I would recommend this place to my family and friends. I will definitely go back and try this during snowy season for a different ambiance.

O.m.g.! what can i say? That was the greatest experience I have ever had. It was my first time and I truly enjoyed it. From the hottub to the Rituals to the cold Plunge and the orange sauna, Regular sauna, the meditation room, sitting in the the fire room and the restaurant were all just so amazing. The only thing I didn't get to do was the laying in the hammock hammock. We ended up staying about 5 hours there and it didn't even seem that long. My daughter and I were able to relax and just be in the moment for once and was truly enjoyable and amazing. The lady that welcomed us was so very friendly, great welcome there. The locker room was very nice worh all its change room shower, and spots to do hair and makeup. They provided the shampoo/cond and bodywash for after the spa, that was nice. The only few things I would suggest is 1. maybe use vinegar or something to soften up the robes.. they were quite scratchy. 2. Offer some lil trail mix pkgs or veggies station for clients. After a few hours, tummies start rumbling and some ppl need to keep up their sugars. (Me/others) and we had already eaten lunch at the restaurant (which was quite pricey) Shout out to Jessie-Rae? Server-she was Fantastic!! I loved all the essential oils and options. Just wondering why i have never been here sooner!! 😊 Overall my experience was still 5/5 I will definitely be back again!
