Me and my girlfriend have been going here for over a year already. It's always our first Pick when deciding to eat Korean food.
However recently we had encountered an issue with service. We noticed one of our dishes tasted off, specifically, it tasted like dish soap was inside the sauce. After tasting various parts of the dish, we located the odd taste spot and asked the waitress to look into it for us. After coming back from the kitchen to inform the chef, to my surprise, she said there was nothing different with the dish and that they always keep the food and dishes consistent. She offered to switch out the plate, at which me and my girlfriend couldn't come to an alternate decision ultimately just deciding to eat what we had already ordered.
My minor issue with this was they were unable to notice the odd taste even after being told where the taste was coming from. I agree their dishes are consistent, it's just there was OBVIOUSLY a weird tasting element to ONE small area of the plate, not the whole dish. I've been basically ordering the same dishes every time I go there, so I'm well aware of what the dishes are supposed to taste like. I'd tell you the dish name Its just I don't speak Korean so I don't remember the names that well. The only dish I remember is Bulgolgi haha. Anyways because of this situation alone I would deduct half a star only because they some how managed to not notice the odd taste even after being told its exact location. I know this is an important part too but I think I did get charged for the dish, but since I dont have receipt anymore I can't confirm this. if It was confirmed I got charged, I would rate service a 2/5 and re-write this review with a lot less forgiveness.
Aside from this situation, the service here is great! I personally havent had any issues aside from the one mentioned earlier. Sometimes it can be a bit slow, but that's due rare and spontaneous increase in customers. Can't blame them for it because it is a family restaurant.
On another note, the food here is excellent and would reccomend it to anyone craving Korean food, in my opinion, it's the best spot in winnipeg.
Atmosphere is average, I mean I personally couldn't care less of atmosphere, I just come to restaurants to eat, not take pictures. My only issue is sometimes the tables are sticky, not sure what cleaner they are using but I would reccomend to switch to something else.
Rating breakdown: Overall: 4.75/5 Food: 5/5 Atmosphere: 3/5 (who cares not counting this) Service: 4.5/5
For google stars I'm rounding up to 5/5.
I believe this restaurant deserves a better...
Read moreI haven’t tried their “authentic Korean” Korean dishes (i.e., bibimbap) at Dowon because from what I know, this restaurant is better known for their Korean style Chinese dishes such as jjajangmyeon(짜장면; black bean noodles), tangsuyuk (탕수육; sweet and sour pork) etc.... boy this place never disappoints me! Even my husband who was born and raised in Korea was pleasantly surprised how good jjajangmyeon and tangsuyuk tasted. Very big portions and good (or shall I say better?) service. The lady who served us tonight (korean girl with blonde-ish hair) was really nice and attentive. Also, the resto looks much better after the renovation- the lighting, flooring and it looks much more spacious after they got rid of the wall that was by the entrance.
Read moreFood was decent, but you can definitely have this type of food at other Korean restaurants. The wait time was too long … and they seemed to be understaffed, there was only one server. There was no customer service at all, and the place was cold, I had to keep my coat on while eating. Also, I was seated by the center of the restaurant, and the server kept walking behind me back and forth to get to other tables, and other customers kept walking behind me to get to the washroom or cashier. So It felt like as if I was eating in the middle of a busy street. I would not recommend this place to someone but if you don’t mind any of the above,...
