Oh my !! I really loved this place but today July 21 9:30 am a roach was in my food . Fried stuck to my salchicha. I had already taken some of the catchupa (1 bite) then noticed that. I completely lost my appetite. I immediately called the waitress back. I had the sausage in the fork and picked it up to the the roach underneath she looked, paused a second then realized what it was and immediately took the plate so I didn’t get a picture. I don’t want to sabotage them as I come here daily and been on the island 5 times. But what type of practice could be going on that a bug is Cooked and smashed against the sausage ? The part that was really heartbreaking was that there was no apology or remorse . Just quickly took the food away and returned back 2 mins later with a menu asking if I want something else . I said absolutely not . From the same grill and kitchen that the roach was found . No thank you . I’ll just take my drink and go have breakfast somewhere else * update , end the end I was not charged for my coffee and orange juice which I was willing to pay for and the cashier apologized for...

Overrated!

We were attracted by the reviews rated to “local and traditional” and the fact that it was always crowded. So disappointed: average Portuguese food! (we leave in Portugal, so I know what I’m talking about). And this is not to shame the local cuisine, we ate in amazing local restaurants (not on the main street as this) and we felt the local experience…this was not! To explain average Portuguese food (not to shame Portuguese food, I am not talking the good one): any mediocre piece of meat or fish with a ton of frozen French fries, tasteless boiled rice and a “salad” (a few leafs with grated carrot on top) or food type stew with is usually just boiled fish with vegetables, usually tasteless. This is what we had. Local amazing food we had: fries made of fresh potatoes, meet and fish beautifully spiced! But not here, search for...

We had many times luch there and few times dinner. There is a big difference between the two because they mostly take fresh fishes in the morning and they frozen them for the evening. Some dishes were always frozen like lobster, octopus but stuff are explaining that. Waiting time was always very long so you need really patience. Prices are the best of Cabo Verde. Stuff was gently but not so attentive. We ask to remove paprika because of allergy yet we always got plates full of it. When we claimed it, the stuff recognize it and taking back yet we was sure they were just removing from the plate and not really changing it. Be really careful if you have a severe allergy condition. Anyway restaurant is often crowded that is a good sign yet you need really patience to wait. They only accept local cards so you...

Long story. I've been coming here since March 2017. My last time: November 2018. I still assure it's the best local place for breakfast if you wanna go full capeverdean breakfast. No fancy pants here. Real people. Locals eat here. My suggestion: In rome, be roman. Don't go for your bacon and eggs thing. Please try the Cachupa with any of its varieties. Try the cous-cous. Homemade food. Nice staff. Cheap on your pocket. My worst scenario? 5 euros for a Cachupa with fish and egg+guava juice+coffee. If we were in Santiago Island, we would pay less than half. But we are on the most turistic island in Capeverde. And this is 100% local homemade food. I recomend it.

Driven by curiosity, I was attracted by a full house restaurant and give it a try. I’m lucky enough to be early there and I just waited for a few minutes to get a table. For the food, the grilled shrimp tastes really good with strong flavor of fresh shrimps. Cachupa is not bad but it just served warm as I expect the pot should be served really hot. The capeverdeian style fish really surprises me, the portion is very generous. The fish is fresh with tender meat and it is served with rice of slight coconut flavor, which is very good. Overall a good dining experience with reasonable price.

Home to the best and most affordable Cachupa! Yaay! Cafe Creol has that cool feel and vibe but actually an affordable and cool indoor/outdoor spot (mostly outdoor actually). The Cachupa is amazing and comes with various servings. I also had French yoghurt which was simple and relaxing for me. No WIFI here...however it's wheelchair accessible. Also, VISA is accepted as a payment means. Staff is also friendly (perhaps an improvement on the other comments about here) Altogether, recommended!
