Hotel Sobrado — Hotel in Sal

I should have known we would have issues when my emails prior to arrival were ignored. On arrival the “suite” I had paid for had been double booked so we were given an alternative which turned out to be the most basic room in the hotel. After three days of complaining I managed to get the difference between the rooms refunded without explanation or apology. Sadly this was just the start of the horrendous stay. |Staff are pleasant enough but I wouldn’t call them friendly. The barman definitely requires a personality transplant, or at least a lesson in smiling and acknowledgment of guests would be a start. The bar area is small and forms part of reception. Drinks are reasonably priced. Breakfast is basic and repetitive but adequate. We ate at the main restaurant for dinner twice. The salad selection was good but all the hot food was stone cold. They simply do not have the facilities to keep food hot so should not be serving it. When I complained the chef just shouted and went back to the bar, as he did frequently throughout service, to have more shots. There was a complete lack of management within the whole hotel but especially the restaurant. They had run out of basic condiments which is unacceptable when there is a supermarket three minutes walk away. It is also not a buffet as such. You are served by someone and the choices are minimal. The second restaurant called Piri Piri serves pizzas etc which was ok and the young chef there was very good. The waiter, however, was the barman so all a bit miserable really. Such a shame that most of our evenings enjoying a peaceful drink were spoilt by waitresses arguing with each other.|The hotel is small with a garden. The “pool” is tiny so more of a plunge pool. The beach is a good 10 mins walk away over uneven surfaces and not one for pleasant views. Lots of half built buildings which makes the area more of a bomb site. Sobrado guests can use the facilities of their sister hotel including the private beach which was really useful with plenty of sun loungers.|Back to the room. The beds were probably the most comfortable I have slept in at a hotel which was great, but you guessed it, that’s where it ended. The room was clean when we arrived but cleaning services throughout our stay were inadequate. Bins were not always emptied, dirty glasses not removed, shower gels not replenished and towels were not clean looking. The TV had one level which was 100 so we couldn’t watch it , which is fine but if facilitates are advertised they should be in working order.On the third night my son showered and half way through the water turned brown. The water from the toilet, sink, shower and bidet were all brown. We had to use another room’s facilities. The following day my son became unwell followed by me the next day. The a/c then failed so we had to use the fan which appeared to have aggravated a nest of some sort as the room became infested with flying bugs, hundreds of them. The night porter allowed us to use another room for the night but only after he saw the bugs and seemed pretty shocked. This happened again two days later forcing us to checkout and find alternative accommodation.|What could be a lovely hotel is ruined by poor management with very little, if any experience. What really annoyed me was the fact nobody was interested as to why we were checking out early.|On returning home I tried to get a refund for the nights I had paid for but had to check out. They have since insisted ( via the booking company) that they did refund me for the nights. You didn’t, you refunded the difference between the suite and the room we ended up in and since you continue to ignore my emails you simply clarify my point of extremely...

Booked via online agent, booked a deluxe double room for single use. Has a nice coffee machine extra, sofa, more square metres.

Hotel is 6 years old, feels newer. Friendly staff! Reception, restaurant, bar, housekeeping, all great 👍.

Very good breakfast, hot section with freshly made omelette and pancakes, fresh fruit and fresh fruit salad. Filter coffee ar breakfast ok, but a fresh coffee machine would really suit here. Good selection overall, plenty of it,

Room is very spacious, generous balcony. Bed has a (memory?) Foam mattress, took a night to get used to but very comfortable. Airco is just about capable, supported by a fan. Good size TV, plenty of multi lingual channes, several movie channels. Big storage cupboard with safe and plenty of hangers. Rooms kept very clean by lovely housekeeping.

Good size bathroom with nice tiles ! Walk in shower generous size and raulfall style shower head. Not a great water pressure but sufficient.

Simple complimentary bathroom products, nice and plenty towels.

Minibar in room with some soft drinks at reasonable prices. Nearby small supermarket for any extras you need.

Is located on the outskirts of this small town, 6-7 minutes walk to the beach, 10 to town centre, with plenty of choice where to eat and drink. Santa Maria becomes lively in the evenings!

3-4 minutes walk from, eh, bus station? Mini busses stacked and an adventure !

Naggs? It's 4 star it says ... I feel it's more 3 star boutique style .... perhaps a more sizeable pool? I'll try out their related beach area in town later this weekend, which is free to use for hotel guests. The build is peculiar. Old fashioned style keys for the room doors. Not the easiest to use/tight to the frame . Some sliding doors (main entry, restaurant) not the easiest to open . The iron that reception gives comes without ironboard, and the cable does not look the safest. Works fine though!

They keep hotel Very clean good selection of food but after week it wasnt changing too much and hot food is never hot it is cold or slighlty warm I asked for more coca cola and waitress said there isnt any but then seen other girl bringing it from the bar so she just wasnt bothered to bring it few issues with shuttle bus they offer 3x times in 2 days no one came to pick us up even we asked them as my mum has disability they only shaked their shoulders like they didnt care ...As it is not hotel shuttle bus they just call someone to come like Taxi or employees one of them said it Is his day off they need to sort this out as sometimes they pick you up and then on your return you wait at the beach 15 minutes and no one comes

Beach boy has his own business with sun beads on the beach most of the sunbead covered with towels I told him to take it away as there was like 40 sunbeads and no one on them and we had no where to hide from the sun so I got Very bad sun burnt and later found out he is the one who puts towels on them to reserve it for people they pay or he likes he offered me to reserve it for me next day when he seen I was angry definitely they need more capacity as I was there out of season It is still good value for money you are paying compare to holiday prices in...
