We came to this restaurant because of the review, but after one dining experience, I'm not sure if the reviews are true or not.
The food is very pricy for what it is, after we've been on the island for several days and visited other restaurants (such as Cracked Conch, which is wonderful), this place is overpriced for what it is. While the atmosphere is nice with the tarpons swimming by the edge of the restaurant's water, many restaurants in Grand Cayman offer amazing views and atmospheres anyway.
We had a late lunch so we didn't order a large meal. Our waitress, while friendly, kept checking up on us in a way that felt she was pressuring us to order more food.
The end of the meal was what made the experience horrible. The waitress informed us that 18% of gratuity was already added to the bill, so additional tipping is optional. She brought out the credit card machine (we split the bill between three of us), and said that "while the 18% automatically embedded gratuity pays for everyone working here, it's encouraged to tip more" . I felt that it was implied for us to tip more and you don't even have an option to choose what percentage you want to tip in addition, it was automatically set to 18%.
I've never had any other waiter say something like this on the island. In fact, some would tell us NOT to tip because gratuity is already added. How deceiving of her and nice way to pressure guests to tip.
We ended up tipping 18% more in addition to the 18% gratuity that was already included in the final bill. It's not that we didn't want to tip more, but having someone stand next to you, pressure you to do so, is another matter. I felt that the waitress took advantage of us being tipsy and also lying about the tip, in addition to constantly pressuring us to order more food. It ruined the entire experience.
We later on chatted with some locals that live on the island and they said that this place is just for tourists that don't know much about the island. It all makes sense.
I highly recommend you NOT to come to this restaurant. There're plenty of fabulous restaurants where you will not get pressured and swindled. Never, ever will I come back to this place even if I return...
Read moreThis place was absolutely fantastic. It was genuinely a dining experience. From the moment you step foot inside, you're transported to a realm where culinary excellence meets unparalleled ambiance.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by the warm and attentive staff, who guided us to our table overlooking the restaurant and ocean. The ambiance was enchanting as they sat us in a gazebo when we arrived after making a reservation and informing them this was a special occasion.
As we perused the menu, we were spoiled for choice with a diverse array of dishes, each one crafted with meticulous attention to detail. From fresh seafood delicacies to succulent steaks, there was something to tantalize every palate.
We started our culinary journey with oysters and lobster nuggets. Both were impeccably fresh and delicious. The flavors danced on our tongues, setting the stage for what was to come.
For our main course, we opted for the stuffed lobster tail and filet mignon, and it was nothing short of perfection. The filet was cooked to absolute precision and melted in your mouth. The lobster was saturated in flavor with sautéed vegetables. The coconut cream pie left us speechless. Our pictures don't do the food any justice!
Throughout our dining experience, the service was impeccable, with the staff anticipating our every need and ensuring that every moment was nothing short of extraordinary.
What made our evening more eventful was feeding our scraps to the Tarpon at the end of our meal. What a great way to reduce waste!
In conclusion, our dinner was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. From the delectable cuisine to the enchanting ambiance and impeccable service, every aspect exceeded our...
Read moreStarting with the good: The view was very nice. Sitting along side the water is beautiful. The waitstaff was very knowledgable and good. The wine menu is extensive and impressive. The food was good, as you would expect for this pricepoint. We had the blackened Mahi Mahi and the Homemade Seafood Pasta was really good. The Spinach & Arugala Salad, Lobster Bisque and Cayman Conch Chowder were outstanding.
The bad: This is where it hurts to write this. This restaurant, from the waitstaff, to the view, cigars at the ready, extraordinary wine list indicates that this is a 5 star restaurant but at 7pm and 9pm this restaurant turns into a modern day freak show. Because at these two times every night they decide to feed the tarpon & people act like they have lost their minds. They rudely crowd around other people's tables, blocking the spectacular view that you are trying to enjoy, let their children run amuck and act like they have no manners. You may say that this is a reflection of the parents, not the restaurant but I would conjecture that the restaurant should do these nightly feedings off to the side, rather than in the middle of the dining area. That way people who came for fine dining by the waterside would not be hassled by the people who came for a novelty sideshow. In summation, this is a 5 star restaurant if you avoid the tarpon feeding at 7pm and 9pm. Otherwise, it is nothing short of a...
