Restaurant San Marino — Restaurant in Viña del Mar

We wanted to like this new location so bad, but I turned out to be a huge disappointment. We ordered caldillo de congrio and paila marina for main dishes. Both were salty and truly tasteless. Fish and shellfish seemed just out of deep freeze and boiled for hours. We also tried the machas Parmesana and the cheese empanadas and they were pretty decent. We have had lunch and dinner 3 times before at San Marino’s at the old location by the ocean and frankly it was a remarkable experience. This time we’re not as fortunate. Wait staff was very cordial and served our table expeditiously. When asked for feedback we told our waitress that the food was less than average and she indicated that they had the same chef as before. She offered to change the dishes and find a way to compensate us for the inconvenience, which we declined. The new locale lacks character and it feels way smaller than the old place. Not good for big groups, we were 7 people, they were not able to join tables and we had to wait more than 1hr to be sit. And we had to propose to join 2 tables. Not efficient. Food was quality and good variety. No water in the bathroom for toilettes, no one mentioned this to us, nor gave an explanation about it. Waiter was quality and close to perfect. But accommodation people were not efficient. Usually in Chile you get bread and pebre. For the price of the place I would not expect plastic cups for pebre and butter. Great to hear live music/ magic show but the owners could pay them and not collect table by table.

You can do better for the”best” place...

Avoid this place. Two days ago there was fire explosion there in the evening that ended in serious burns of the waiter who was refuelling fireplaces. I was the only one who got burns from all people who were dining. My hair burned a bit too. My clothes were destroyed and the owner did not even bother to compensate them and did not even tell sorry. After such an accident he did not close the restaurant the next day in order to review security measures and let employees to stay at home as they all had big chock and...
