If you’re in Mui Wo and craving authentic Thai cuisine, look no further than Baan Rao Thai Restaurant! Run by the wonderful Glyn and his wife, this gem has quickly become my favorite dining spot in the area. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by the warmth of the staff, who are incredibly friendly and obliging. The authenticity of the food is unmatched, thanks to their talented kitchen staff—all hailing from Thailand. Each dish is a testament to traditional Thai flavors, perfectly spiced and customized to suit your palate. Whether you prefer it mild or with a kick, Glyn and his team make sure every bite transports you straight to Thailand. One of the highlights of Baan Rao is their exciting Mystery Chef Nights, which showcase diverse culinary cultures. My wife and her friends had the pleasure of contributing to a Sri Lankan night, and it was a fantastic experience! Glyn was a gem, treating everyone with kindness and ensuring they had the space they needed during the cook-off. It was a wonderful way to celebrate food and community, and the event was a roaring success! All in all, Baan Rao is a place I will visit every time I go to Mui Wo!

I am one of those people who’s always trying Thai restaurants because I’m in search of a really great pad thai and curry in HK…and I think I have found my HG (holy grail)!! New restaurant in Mui Wo is BOMB. The flavors are PERFECT. Not overly diluted with watery stock or too creamy with coconut milk; not under seasoned but also not overly salted with fish sauce. We ordered the prawn red curry, the pad Thai, Tom yum soup, crispy pork neck. The currys flavor is perfect! It’s rich and flavorful; they’ve cooked the prawn heads in with the curry so it’s rich, we practically wanted to drink it! The crispy pork neck was perfectly done; usually when they say crispy it’s overdone and a bit tough, but not here, it’s tender inside and has a slight crunch on the outside, it’s a great texture. The pad Thai and soup was loaded with prawn and veggies inside. Spice level was nicely balanced; even the red curry which felt a bit spicy at first seemed to mellow out by the end of the meal. No upset stomach. Will definitely be back!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Baan Rao is the OG Thai restaurant of Mui Wo. I remember it being one of the first Thai restaurants here. Still the best for me. Highly recommend! Located in the heart of Mui Wo on Lantau Island, specifically near the bank. This family-run gem brings the authentic flavors of Thailand to Hong Kong. 🙌 The atmosphere is wonderful —cozy, welcoming, and spacious, with plenty of comfortable seating areas, including their amazing sofas that make you want to stay for hours. The blend of Thai culture in the decor and the warmth of the staff makes the experience even better. The food is outstanding! Prepared by Thai chefs, every dish is an authentic burst of flavor. I like the Pad Thai, which comes in a generous portion. Other must-try dishes include the Pork Neck and Pork Mince Basil with Rice. Their Boat Noodles are also great! Alcohol is good! They serve tap and Thai beers. Will visit again thx 🙂🙏
