Complaint Regarding Rude and Unprofessional Receptionist
I am writing to express my disappointment regarding the behavior and attitude of the receptionist I encountered during my recent visit to your lounge.
When I arrived, I presented my card to use the lounge service. Normally, I use my Explorer Card, but on this occasion, I had accidentally left it at home. Instead, I provided my American Express Gold Business card. The receptionist asked me, “Just drinks or food?” I was confused by this question, as I was accustomed to having my card and boarding pass scanned upon entry. Without providing clarification, she simply led me inside.
Only after I asked for further explanation did I realize that the Gold Business card was not eligible for lounge access. While I acknowledge this was my mistake, I expected her to inform me of this upfront. I am not familiar with the eligibility requirements, and it is not my responsibility to know the specifics of your internal policies. We then had to walk back out of the lounge, and during this process, she sighed audibly and simply said “No” in a dismissive tone.
When I provided my AE Platinum card instead, she rolled her eyes at me. I found this unprofessional and completely unnecessary. It was not a busy time—there was only one person behind me—so there was no reason for her to be impatient or dismissive.
I am not someone who usually complains, and I understand that no job is without its challenges. However, I believe that basic courtesy and professionalism should be a standard, especially for staff in customer-facing roles. The receptionist appeared to lack proper training in welcoming guests and communicating clearly. Since your organization works with multiple companies to offer lounge access, it is critical that staff are knowledgeable and able to guide guests politely.
The experience was disrespectful, disappointing, and far below the standards I expect from your establishment. I hope you will address this matter by providing the necessary training to ensure such incidents do not happen...

Read moreGetting delayed for my flight posed a major issue: how do I spend twelve hours? I spent a while looking through various restaurants and lounges, trying to find a comfortable and valuable place to while away since I was unable to effectively explore Hong Kong in my limited time there. Past various corridors of banal gift shops and confectionaries, an unassuming sign pointing towards both the skydeck as well as the 'sky bar'. I found Interval to be the most worthwhile airport bar for every walk of life, with affordable prices, and a knowledgeable staff to guide your dining (and drinking) experience. I decided to splurge on a single flight, but that's not what drew my attention. What was really great was the staff's ability to generate conversation and produce an environment that is comforting to eat and drink in. While these menu items are pretty damn good, the important part is being able to calm down and relax while chatting away with your bartenders, forgetting your flight. I got to have three great 'wingmen' as my delay allowed half a day of debauchery: First was Sradha and Prashant, both having great vibes and playing off each other to produce a comfortable environment. Sradha's extensive knowledge about her time in Hong Kong and the (as of now) brief history of Interval proved to hold my interest very nicely. When the changing of the guard occurred, Jackson was assigned to me, but with no less excitement. His exemplary pouring and honest nature made it very easy to get caught up in smalltalk and personal interests. In any case, come on around, check out the experts, and have a great time waiting for your own flight while...
