Overpriced and overcooked
We came here to celebrate our family's final night in Hong Kong expecting to enjoy a fresh seafood feast but instead we found ourselves in a tourist trap paying HKD $5000 for 6 adults. After our chosen seafood was bagged in front of us at the fish monger we sat down and the first dish brought over wasn't one of the dishes or seafood we chose. Seemed quite suspicious since there were hardly any other people in the restaurant for them to mix up orders. They also mixed up our chosen mud crab for the more expensive snow crab and we had to rectify the mistakes.
This might have been forgiven if the seafood wasn't so poorly cooked. Our mantis prawns were so dry and the scallops had turned to rubbery shreds.
On top of that, the waiters hovered behind you changing your plate every 5 mins. On multiple occasions they took away the expensive seafood you were eating with it!!! I felt like I was fighting with the waiter to get a bite of my expensive dry rubber shrimp.
Whilst it was a memorable experience for our family that we will not forget 😅, I recommend finding a seafood restaurant far away from this...
Read moreI have not visited Lei Yu Mun for many years. It was a very popular location for seafood meals in HK. That night, Lei Yu Mun was pretty quiet, not many people.
I had a family gathering at this restaurant, but all the seafood was bought elsewhere. We only ordered 2 dishes of vegetables. The seafood was cooked by this restaurant, and they charged the service at hkd120 per person (basic), which included fish soup, some snacks, dessert, and fruit. Depending on the way of the cooking, extra could be needed on top of the per person charges. After all, there is another 10% service charge.
We were a group of 8 and spent around hkd2000 at this restaurant, excluding the seafood. All the seafood was cooked pretty well. We enjoyed the seafood umami very much except the King Crab congee, in which we could not see any crab paste. The fish was a bit overcooked as it was quite big.
The king crab was very juicy, though. 😋
The environment was pretty bright and tidy. The servers were diligent to replace plates and to offer help. We sat at a table next to the large glass wall facing the Victoria Habour sea view. It...
Read moreThe worst seafood experience we have ever had! The food was bland and without any flavor. The lobster tasted like nothing. The steamed fish was tough. The shrimp wasn’t prepared how we asked for. Did the chef run out of salt?! The worst part came at the end: the bill was horrendous. They overcharged dramatically on the seafood. The fish monger who took us there apparently thought it was acceptable to quadruple charge since we were not locals. The truth is: NOBODY in Hong Kong would pay such a price for these three items. As a matter of fact, you wouldn’t pay this much for these three items almost anywhere. We confronted them about it and you could see in their faces that we called them out for their scam. It was a rip off. The restaurant was in cahoots with the fish monger. Regardless, we would have swallowed the price and not said anything if the food would have been great. But their kitchen simply sucked. We have had these same dishes numerous times before elsewhere in Hong Kong and in other countries - this place ranks dead last. Don’t go there! You’ll find numerous better authentic seafood places...
