This café was recommended by my friend who lives in Sai Kung. So I went there and decided to spend an afternoon. Chilling out with friends with delicious food and coffee.
We have ordered: 1.Chia Pod 2.Smoked Salmon on Sourdough Rye 3.Pulled Pork Benedict 4.Brownie 5.Flat White Coffee Tonic (Espresso Tonic) Cold Brew
I will just comment on what i have tried. I tried Smoked Salmon on Sourdough Rye, Pulled Pork Benedict, Coffee Tonic and Cold Brew.
First, the smoked salmon. I think the presentation of the dish is nice. You can clearly see the layers, spice - smoked salmon - rocket - the sourdough. Squeeze the lemon juice on the salmon, it's much more tasty. I didn't eat it with the sauce provided for the first try. Salmon and rocket is always a nice combination, with the sourdough, it turns into a better level of enjoyment. The sauce, I guess there is sour cream, with some spice and some other ingredients. The sauce gives you the feeling of fresh, When you dip some sauce on the bread, its delicious.
Second, the pulled pork benedict. The pork is a little bit spicy, the seasoning is nice, and I think everyone can handle it. The spicy helps to boost the taste overall. Moreover, the amount of pulled pork is sufficient or even a bit more than enough. The hollandaise sauce and green apple slices provide sour and sweet taste to the dish. It definitely helps to alleviate the spiciness of the pulled pork. When you try on the pull pork with the poached egg, it really taste good.
I tried Coffee Tonic. Is normal not that quite surprised. The next one is cold brew. I think the sourness is greater than the bitterness. Thus, I like cold brew more than the espresso tonic. There is one point, I want to point out, I like the bottles or the cups/glass to hold the coffee, I think it really fits.
The café divided into two areas. You can either choose to sit inside or sitting outdoors. I recommend, like the time in Autumn, just sit outside, enjoy the sun shine and also the wind blows from the sea. Its really relaxing. For queuing, I didn't take too much time to wait. But it really depends on situation. So, don't take reference on waiting time, I believe it will be different among days.
There is one thing I am sure. That is, I am willing to visit the shop again to try out some others dishes and drinks. A nice place to eat, chill and chat with...
Read moreThe service is good but the food is mid We got Beef Ragu pasta 6/10 Pulled pork Benedict 6/10 Smokes salmon toast 6.5/10 Chocolate chip cookie 5/10 Passion fruit yoyo 1/10 Sticky toffee loaf 1/10
Pulled pork Benedict It didn't have enough salt of it so it was rather flavorless even though it had enough seasoning
Smoked salmon It was ok, it had plenty of salmon but it was nothing special
Beef ragu pasta It was also lacking salt, even though it tasted good overall, the lack of salt made it less enjoyable
Passion fruit yoyo $38 We haven't tried yoyos before so I was shocked that it was really crumbly and buttery not on a good way the Passion fruit flavor was nearly nonexistent and the price was just not worth it
Sticky toffee loaf Honestly this one I was the most disappointed about, I could get behind all the other ones as they just lacked salt or something easily solvable but this was just really really bad, we couldn't even finish it. It was so dense and dry and not much of the Sticky toffee flavors
Conclusion This is not supposed to be a hate review and I appreciate the effort of the staff and not everything suits my taste but I think the restaurants/chef can work on the Sticky toffee pudding more. Maybe add some caramel sauce to make it less dry or make a traditional pudding instead of a loaf.
Also the serving system seems a bit chaotic as our table got seated and ordered first but the table next to us got their food first (who ordered the same thing as us) it seems like they gave it to the wrong table as when the staff got our food they gave it to the table next to us again and the staff also gave us a smoothie bowl which was the table next to us order. I'm not too bothered by it but I think it's also something to work on.
I hope this constructive...
Read moreFound a not-so-little-gem of a breakfast spot in Sai Kung! Arrived at around 8:45am on a Sunday morning, just in time to beat the brunch rush hour. As soon as we were seated, a line started to form. So to be on the safe side, if you don't want to wait, be sure to arrive by 8:30am.
We ordered the Flat White and the Shakerato. The Flat White was lacking some strong flavor and tasted a bit bland to me. But the Shakerato wad truly a surprise! It arrived in a cocktail glass and I wondered if my coffee drink contained alcohol or not, ha! It was very refreshing and I liked the touch of coconut around the rim of the glass, and the bits of coffee beans in the blended espresso. But for HKD48 it was a bit steep, and for not much coffee.
The French Toast was simply perfect, from the crunch of pistachio bits, rose petals, light drizzle of syrup and that scoop of divine butter.
Shakshuka, one bit in, and all the flavors just burst in your mouth. So so good!
Will be back to try the avocado toast and pulled-pork eggs benedict, yummm...
The service was a little on the slow side, as it seemed they were short-staffed, with only 2 people serving food and taking orders. It took a while to get some water, and while we could see the bottles of waters and cups on the counter, wr weren't sure if it would be a good idea to get it ourselves, so we tried to wait.
Aside from this small blip, we had a very enjoyable breakfast, and it was truly treat to sit outside, under the good weather and...
