Chuen Kee is a restaurant located right by the water, offering both indoor and outdoor seating. For those who prefer the fresh vibe of dining while enjoying the sea breeze, outdoor seating is available. Conversely, those wishing to escape the heat can opt for the air-conditioned indoor seating.
We selected this restaurant because of the vast selection of live seafood in the outdoor tanks, but we soon realized that the service was not up to expectations. The staff encouraged us to order from the set menu and didn’t really give us a chance to select live seafood from the tanks outside. After ordering the set menu for four people, we added roasted pork and expressed our desire to order black bean clams, but they told us that would be too much food and refused to take any more orders.
For the most part, the food was quite good, although the texture of the mantis shrimp was a bit off-putting. I’ve eaten mantis shrimp before and was familiar with a firm texture, but the one we were served was soft and a tad mushy. The steamed grouper was good, as were the scallops with vermicelli, while the lobster with cheese and noodles was bland.
The service, unfortunately, was a miss. Nobody came to check on us, and it was difficult to wave someone over. We never received dessert, and after waiting over 30 minutes following the completion of our meal, we decided to take the bill and leave.
P.S. sanitation is a concern as I noticed a female kitchen staff member enter the bathroom with her apron on and leave without...
Read moreFirst of all, I don’t enjoy seafood. However, I wanted my husband to try Hong Kong seafood during his visit, so I joined a group of friends for dinner here. I am going to share about the two non-seafood dishes we had, for the benefit of other non-seafood eaters.
Char Siu It was not bad. It was more juicy than crispy, though.
Sweet and Sour Pork It was quite good. Crispy outside and juicy inside. You can taste the pineapple. I would recommend it if there is anyone who doesn’t eat seafood in a group.
For service, we had mixed feelings. There was a male server who consistently ignored the female in the group but only listened to one man who was in charged of ordering for the group. Even though we were all sure he got one order wrong but he insisted he was right and had to check with our man when he came back from the washroom. When he was back, he confirmed we were right, but the server still didn’t believe it. What’s the point of disagreeing with your customers? Just get your order right - easy and quick fix. Shouldn’t even have been worthy of the time dealing with such hassle.
A side note for the seafood, price was on the high end but taste was not living up to the price. We would try another seafood restaurant next time...
Read moreIf you're looking for a seafood restaurant in the area, "Chuen Kee" is definitely worth a visit. Although we visited on a rainy day and the restaurant was quiet, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the seafood and the overall experience.
The seafood at Chuen Kee is exceptional and we were impressed with the selection of fresh seafood on offer. The restaurant clearly takes pride in sourcing high-quality ingredients and preparing them with care. From the succulent prawns to the perfectly cooked fish, everything we tried was delicious.
While the pricing may be on the higher side, it's definitely worth it for the quality of the seafood. You can justify the cost because you're getting fresh and tasty seafood that's hard to come by at other restaurants. The portions are also generous, so you definitely get what you pay for.
Overall, our experience at Chuen Kee was exceptional. The food was delicious, the service was attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy and comfortable. If you're a seafood lover looking for a high-quality dining experience, Chuen Kee is definitely worth...
