Zeugma is a small eatery that opened early last year on Fuk Man Rd. in front of the light bus terminus in Sai Kug Village. They serve simple but very good Mediterranean food as reasonable prices. Opening hours are 12pm to 9pm daily.
This is a simple and straight-forward place, only a few informal tables for seating on the pavement in front of the shop. A crew behind the counter working hard preparing wraps, salad and rice base dishes with your choice of meat, falafel or halloumi. They offer a handful of other mainly Turkish and Greek orders as well.
We had an early meal here recently and were very impressed with the quality of the Falafel Wrap (HK$59) which was well constructed, packed with delicious falafel and veg. Could have used a bit more mint yoghurt but overall taste was very good.
We further tried the Lamb Shish Rice Plate (HK$95). The lamb was seasoned well, slightly succulent and delicious. The rice was prepared with chickpea, giving nice flavour. The salad was fresh and also very tasty. Serving size was larger than expected. This was an excellent order, one we would gladly return to order again.
In addition to standard drinks, you can try their homemade lemonade or freshly squeezed pomegranete juice (HK$50), which we both had with dinner. The pomegranete was delicious.
We left Zeugma very pleased with our budget friendly and delicious meal, wondering what took us so long to try this place in Sai Kung. It is places like Zeugma that remind us that you don't always have to dine in pricey places to find great food around Hong Kong. Needless to say -...
Read moreWe are long-time customers of Zeugma, having probably ordered their food 300 times or more—no kidding—since they first opened about 6-7 years back. In fact, when we actually lived in Sai Kung, we sometimes ate food from there twice a week and still go back whenever we’re in the village.
Imagine our surprise, then, when we went back today and found that they have suddenly increased their prices by MORE THAN 30 PERCENT!
A chicken shish salad, for instance, which previously sold for $75, is now $100. It’s even worse for a chicken shish wrap, which jumped in price from $80 to $110.
Of course, we do understand that businesses sometimes need to raise their prices in order to survive. It’s natural.
But we live in Hong Kong and are thus well familiar with food costs here. And given that, there is nothing we have seen in the last little while that would justify such a dramatic and exorbitant price hike as this.
As my wife aptly put it, “Now that they have gotten successful, they are also starting to get greedy.”
Hey, who knows? Perhaps this new high pricing will fool visitors to Sai Kung from Central, who are used to paying such high prices there. However, for regulars like us, who don’t make those kinds of big salaries from rich corporations, prices like this will do nothing but...
Read moreI was in SK over the CNY but was too lazy to walk over to The Cabin, Village Malaysian etc and this restaurant saved the day because there is no point paying for overpriced stuff that is not my cup of tea and the food I had here is 10x healthier.
It was late in the afternoon and I was in SK to get another bus somewhere for dinner so I had something light.
Originally wanted the roast potatoes which weren't ready yet so I had the hummus.
The hummus here is made with more Tahini than Chickpeas hence it is a lot smoother and not as thick paired with Lavish flat bread which is a lot thinner with a slight crisp to it.
It all worked out brilliantly because there was a perfect ratio of flatbread to hummus as sometimes you don't get enough of either or too much of either!
The hummus wasn't strong in flavour but you could taste the Tahini.
As I said the recipe is different because some are more lemony or laced with cumin or chickpeas.
Anyway, it really makes me miss hummus brothers in UK where they had chicken curry hummus bowls!
Tried the falafel and it was fluffy with a...
