Enping — Restaurant in Catedral

This place was a total surprise. We happened to walk by and saw the way the chairs were covered and instantly knew this is an authentic Chinese restaurant! Lo be hold! The complimentary soup of the day would have been a charged item in NY Chinatown for over $40USD! The waiter recommended a few dishes, all authentic cookings from En Ping (a city near Canton China) and we enjoyed them very much. The steamed fish, the flavored chicken stew, the fried sweat and sour ribs,the squid and vegetables … the dishes were huge and the 6 of us couldn’t even finish them all… and the bill...

Neat, tidy restaurant with linen tablecloths. Huge serve of very ordinary fried rice with a reasonable amount of bbq pork which was dry and tasteless. The menu was relatively bland with no foo Yong or many Chinese regulation dishes. Somewhat disappointed with so many choices but so little variation. And don't be fooled by the "specials" options. Large affordable portions, seasoning and sauces were very well done. Everything tasted fresh. Large dining hall, very clean, and well lit but not a lot of character. There seemed to be new staff adapting to the job, so service might usually be better. Culturally, it was neat to see a Chinese family run restaurant in Costa Rica.
