Having driven 10,000 kilometers last summer from Alberta to Nova Scotia for seafood only to find out there is none left in Canada, this place fulfills my seafood fantasy.
Known for its seafood, the portions are unbelievably huge, the food is fresh as can be and the staff is friendly and gracious. Appetizers are almost a meal by themselves. The ceviche is filled with whatever you order it with(mixed, fish, shrimp). Not overly vinegary like most Costa Rican ceviche but tasty and the freshness is something you just can’t get back home.
Apparently, you can get real tuna sashimi with big delicious pieces that taste like they were pulled out of the ocean this morning. It’s ruined my palette for sushi at home forever.
The coconut shrimp are so big and tasty it’s like transporting back to 1975 when america and Canada still had real seafood off its coasts. The breading is amazingly not greasy (similar to how they do fried in Thailand). The shrimp are about six bites each and they serve it on a whole pineapple.
The seafood platter is chock full of squid, fish, mussels, shrimp and crab and also comes with a generous amount of veggies and potatoes. I asked for the Veracruz on the side and it was like a side dish. Not spicy like traditional Veracruz toppings but quite flavorful.
With limited options in Playa Hermosa and having hated the overpriced trendy places like Ginger, we came back a second time and I had seafood pasta to make up for the horrible Fruiti De Mare they served me the night before at Foodnication. It had more seafood than I’ve ever seen in seafood pastas back home and the sauce is flavorful without being overpowering.
Can’t say enough great things about the quality of the food and the prices for two mains and an appetizer with tax and service charge for two is under $60 unless you order lobster. (Which I absolutely will before we leave). If you can’t get enough seafood like me, don’t eat anywhere else no matter how many days you...
Read moreThe worst of the worst customer service I’ve ever experience in my entire life...Just imagine going to a restaurant you, your wife, your handicap mom and your 2 children. When you arrive this place, the parking lot is small and no security guard is present so any other car parked there, can crash yours or can scratch it and go away without you noticing it. No ramps for handicaps people if you want to access from the entrance or the beach and no handicap ramps to the bathrooms. In the bathrooms, they use cloth softener instead hands soap. The lack of customer service from the waiter was evident, local people not educated or trained in really what customer service is and no administrator present when the problem was occurring. I told the waiter to change the cloth softener for normal hand soap for me and for all the customers to wash their hands in the proper way and he told me to go out from the restaurant with my family because of that, when I was telling him to put at least something normal to wash hands and not a product that is not meant to be used for that. I will not recommend any one of you to waste your money in this place or take a chance to meet this poor service skills guys and ruin your vacation meal with your family or wife or friends, because this people are not customer service oriented at all. You pay for what you deserve and they don’t event care about what you deserve, they care about selling food under no healthy conditions and if you claim them they kick you out with no reason. BTW, this place is not cheap for the place you see, the chairs you use, the customer service you receive and the restaurant is in...
Read moreLa Casita del Marisco is a delightful gem tucked away in Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica. This quaint seafood spot is beloved by locals and for good reason. The seafood platters and catch of the day grilled to perfection are simply divine—fresh and bursting with flavor.
The menu may not be the most descriptive, but the staff is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, ready to answer any questions. Just be mindful if you have a gluten allergy, as they use a shared fryer.
We started with the avocado shrimp boats, which were a delicious introduction to our meal. For the main course, the seafood platter stole the show with its generous servings of crab, mussels, shrimp, squid, and octopus—all expertly sauteed with fresh vegetables. The rice dish with calamari was also delightful, although the rice itself had a slightly unusual flavor that didn't quite match the excellence of the seafood.
Parking can be tricky, especially during peak times, so it's wise to arrange transportation if you're staying nearby. The restaurant offers ample space to enjoy the breathtaking sunset views.
While they don't have a formal drink menu, the full bar serves up refreshing Imperial beer to complement your meal perfectly.
Overall, La Casita del Marisco is a must-visit for seafood enthusiasts seeking a true taste of Costa Rica's coastal flavors. The ambiance, service, and most importantly, the food, make it a four-star dining experience in...
