We had a party of nine - we expected this to be our final night together celebration dinner but were quite disappointed. The restaurant was empty except for us an another party of 12. Inattentive, slow service. The lobster bisque was awful, and the other appetizers were tiny. Their signature seabass dish came with no vegetable or starch - it was just a small hunk of fish on a big plate sitting in sauce with an over-dressed side salad in a separate bowl. The snapper was dry, and the rice that came with it was salty. The steak entrees were better than the fish. My son ate the seafood grill for two - he was the only person in the group really happy with his meal. I would avoid this place - it's very expensive for Tamarindo with small portions and poor service. We consistently had service issues with the Diria group - both in the hotel and with this restaurant - maybe they should stick to being real estate developers and let others run...

While visiting tamarindo beach, we came across this amazing place, they open from 5pm to 10pm, we were a party of 4 adults + 1 (11 years old) kid.

Let me start with letting you know to ask for Jose Carlos the main waiter, super friendly, very knowledgeable.

They also have live music in Spanish and english till about 9pm.

From beginning to end ...their dishes, appetizers, their overall service is amazing, we had a great time for a great value.

This place is so amazing that it remains me at this great Italian restaurants located in millburn Nj called La Pergola, owned by Driola + Al... but let's leave that for another review...

The pelican is a great place where a family of 5 can have an amazing experience + a great memory for many years to come for under $150.

It was so amazing that we went a 2nd night :)... from a hard working Jersey family ...to...

Went here a few days ago during our trip to Tamarindo. Fernando and Fernanda were absolutely amazing... very sweet and attentive while also giving us space. The food was amazing... presented beautifully and very fulfilling. At the end of dinner, Fernanda would walk the kids across the street to get a complimentary gelato which I thought was a sweet gesture (no pun intended). The small touches like customizing your water, bringing scented towels to clean your hands before your meal, and the complimentary appetizer made it feel like you were at a high end restaurant, with the bill being a fraction of the cost. Beyond impressed with the cost to quality ratio and I highly recommend this place to anyone who goes...

I recommend this restaurant. The atmosphere was elegant and very relaxing. We sat outside on the patio in the evening. The staff was extremely attentive. We gave service a 4 because one staff member wasn't filling our water cups. However, everyone else took much effort to give us a wonderful experience. The food was very good. I recommend the crusted tuna steak. It was amazing. It was cooked just as ordered. The seasonings were perfect. The vegetables were warm, crisp, and nicely seasoned. The Pina Colodas were very good but didn't have much alcohol. I dont recommend the spring rolls. They were fried and oily. Drinks were a great price. I would return to El Pelicano.

Got the beef tenderloin and it was delicious. Seasoned very well and cooked perfectly. My husband got the risotto which was flavorful and cooked well however the shrimp was overcooked, which seemed to be an overarching problem this whole week in Costa Rica. Ordered a sushi roll and tempura as an appetizer. The roll was high quality and flavorful. I wasn't a fan of the veggie tempura, although the tempura batter was delicious the veggies were a bit cold by the time they got to us. Prices are higher than other places around, but you get what you pay for in the higher quality ingredients served here. Service was cheerful and swift. Would definitely visit here again.
