The beach and surrounding restaurants like Tama Onda are dangerous for tourists. I would not recommend going alone or not in a decently sized group. Do not engage with any vendors hanging around this place, especially those consistently coming by asking if you want "free blow" or anyone "renting" surfboards.
After renting a surfboard and returning it, the surfboard vendor on the beach claimed we damaged the board. The vendor threw the board at us and started throwing punches after we said we refused to pay for made up damages. We were quickly surrounded by 8 or 9 grown men (other vendors even) holding metal stakes, rocks, shovels, etc. and shaking us down for money. It was a total tourist move to rent surfboards from these men and we learned our lesson. These people are all playing the long con and do prey upon tourists.
We were patrons of Tama Onda all day buying drinks. When we tried to ask Tama Onda for assistance they did nothing to help with the mob of angry men holding weapons threating to kill us INSIDE their establishment. After they took our money they were fist bumping the staff. If you're a tourist be very careful about coming to this place for food/drinks. It is very apparent there is some perverse relationship between locals and...
Read moreOn our 1st night stay at Tamarindo Beach we had dinner here. We were looking for a place to have fresh fish and they had in their menu which I liked. The happy hour also offers two for $10 drinks. But you gotta have the same drinks. You can’t choose two different ones for $10. I didn’t care much about the drink. Ordered the whole fried Red Snapper and it was delicious. My partner ordered chicken parmesan that came with pasta as side dish. We came at a right time to be able to enjoy the sunset while waiting for our dinner. And during the dinner we were also entertained with live fire show by the beach after dark which was pretty cool. It is a little bit of pricier side. But I guess you are paying for the view, ambient and the...
Read moreThis is a nice beach front restaurant to provide a respite from the heat and the sun. They are good at drinks and snacks. This restaurant is all outside on the sand and despite no fans or AC it’s relatively cool here. We got pescado entero frite which is an entire fried fish (red snapper). This I would say is the second or third best entire fish entree in Tamarindo that I tried. For the price, I wish it was a tad better when compared to the best fish we had which was cheaper and more moist. This place was a nice respite from playing in the ocean, I recommend it for fun drinks and appetizers. The staff is...
