Despite the picturesque location, this was not my favourite restaurant in Tamerindo. Albeit, the location is excellent and the views are very nice - even in the evening.

We arrived just on the tail end of a "Fire Show" and as we sat the show ended - the second the show ended we were bombarded with the performers practically begging for a tip - which I would be happy to provide but we didn't even see the show! I understand this is not the restaurants fault but unfortunately this still had an effect on the experience.

Just to preface, I am not a picky eater at all. Food wise - Ocean is generally not so great. EXTREMELY overpriced for the food/portions/quality you receive. This was the most expensive restaurant we ate at in Tamerindo and had the worst food by far. We ordered the chips and pico as the starter, ribeye steak and margherita pizza as our mains - along with two drinks. The chips and pico was $12 USD ($16.50 CAD) and the portions size was laughable - the plate was half empty. The ribeye steak was generally OK - asked for medium but came out medium rare. The garlic confit was really good. The fries were stale. The pizza was outright terrible - you pick up a slice and all the cheese falls right off and the dough is undercooked (also it's too greasy).

Perhaps we came on a bad night however, this is not something I would recommend to others and felt that we overpaid and Ocean underdelivered. We ended up dining at another restaurant afterwards. The two stars is for the view and garlic confit. Ocean has some...

WARNING!! DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR VACATION RUINED!!!!

I came here at the tail end of my vacation (which was wonderful by the way) expecting it to send my visit off in a nice manner. It's on the beach, the reviews on line look promising and the pictures on the website look nice. HOWEVER, this is perhaps one of the worst experiences I have had at a resturaunt. I started off with the tuna tartar and the garlic shrimps. The tartar was rancid. I am a commercial fisherman so I know when fish is bad. The shrimp was slightly undercooked but tasted okay. I ordered the whole grilled snapper which I thought had to be better than my starters. I was wrong. The dish came after 50 minutes and was ice cold. No sides were included, which for $29 you would at least expect some rice or something. I was beyond dissapointed with this dish. To make matters worse. When bringing my frustrations to my servers attention they merely shrugged it off and told me if I had such high expectations I should have went somewhere else. With paying north of $200 for a dinner for two, I of course expected decent service and a nice meal. I ended up getting very sick from the tuna which made my journey home very unenjoyable. I would not advise my worst enemy to ever dine at this...

I have never put up a bad review in my life but this jarred me. The staff pretended they did not know how to do the conversion from American to colones ???? Like what !?? They suggested we give a large tip - Then pretended they did not know the bill amount as they took our original bill away from us and claimed that the bill was double the actual bill higher than the actual paper record. Also The waitress then said she would prefer to take Kelowna , obviously to trick tourist with the conversion ! She claimed that we gave them a fake American bill and gave us back a counterfeit bill. All of our bills came from Calforex in Canada. They are all 100% real- could not be counterfeit. Wow !!? Food was Great , ambience was great, but the owner of this restaurant needs to look into either !!!…::::who his staff are or perhaps owners are in on the scam ??? Either way we’d be happy to go back to talk to the owner and point out the exact staff member that did this - feel free to reach out to me we own property in Tamarindo - more than happy to come down - but we don’t like...

Disappointingly, our visit to this ocean side restaurant left much to be desired. Despite the picturesque location, the slow service severely dampened our dining experience. Waiting excessively for our orders detracted from the enjoyment of the scenic views and salty breeze. Furthermore, the food quality did not match the stunning setting; it lacked flavor and freshness, it also felt as though it was left sitting minutes before being brought out, failing to impress even the most forgiving palate. Regrettably, our disappointment was further compounded when a few members of our group fell ill after consuming their meals, raising concerns about food safety standards. Overall, while the ocean view was captivating, the lackluster service and poor food quality made for a forgettable but unforgettable dining experience.

We didn't expect much from going to The Ocean - just another beach front restaurant. To our surprise, the atmosphere in The Ocean is very pleasant and you can see that they really tried to make the place comphortabe for any group. Large tables with white table cloths for big groups, comphartabe smaller couches for smaller groups. In summary the decor is great. The food: we ordered calamari rings, seafood risotto and seafood pizza. The risotto was very good with lots of shrimp, muscles and fish. The pizza was large in size and full of toppings. The real jewel were the calamari rings - enormous in size and taste. We loved our dinner. The prices are average with a little premium for the location right at the beach. All in all, I would highly recommend the pace for a casual dinner and/or cocktails.
