I had dinner at this restaurant twice in a row. The first night, I was greeted immediately. The food was great and the service was friendly and warm. The second night, I was greeted immediately and the food was good, BUT I had a different server. Her name was Maja. All was going well. I ordered two glasses of white wine and the Tagliatelle Verde.
The experience took a turn for the worst when Maja brought me the check. I was surprised to see that I had been charged for 4 glasses of wine. Yes! You read that right. She charged me for 4 glasses of wine and I only ordered 2 glasses.
When I ordered the wine, I ordered DIRECTLY from the menu. I pointed to the "wine by the glass" section and asked for the Malvazija which was 24kuna. It's important to note that I did NOT ask for a "double" nor did I ask for more in the glass. I simply ordered the amount on the menu.
When I saw the charge I asked Maja about it and she said that she automatically places a double order when someone orders a glass of wine. Meaning she has the bartender pour .20 instead of .10 which is what is marketed on the menu. She did NOT ask me. She did NOT give me a choice. I explained to her that the night before, the other server simply gave me the amount presented in the menu. She says that she doesn't do it like that. She requests a double pour on behalf of the customer even if they don't ask for it!
This really upset me because I felt as though she was dishonest and she tried to make me believe that what she does is the standard or normal, but I KNOW it is not because
I live here My experience the night before AND When I left I asked 3 different Croatians if it's ever happened to them and they all said, NO.
One even said that she probably did that to me because I was a foreigner and they think we can afford it.
I still paid her the full bill and gave her a tip because I am a nice, honest person, and I didn't want conflict, but she definitely didn't deserve it.
Due to the lack of integrity of this server and the unwillingness of her colleagues to correct the situation, I cannot recommend this restaurant. To me, quality of service is everything. It's a shame because the food was good.
I live in Zagreb and have experienced lots of restaurants. My advice is to go to Nokturno Restaurant. Their service is top notch and the food is AMAZING and extremely affordable. They also bring you what you ask for and they don't try to charge you double and hope you...
Read moreFirst thing which will catch your attention in this restaurant is interior design which is designed like you are sitting in the middle of some Italian small town square or Piazza. Details goes all the way, so there is even a city sign "Piazza Canzona". Second thing which you will notice is that stuff could be more pleasant and warmer. On one of our question about food, we just got brief and cold " No" while waitress was walking away from us. Ok, so interior is a plus, a staff (at least this particular older blonde waitress) is a minus. What about food? Well, I would say nothing special, but tasteful and good, which is a standard I expect. For a starter we ordered bruschette, the are 2 types, with mozzarella and with prosciutto. Both are excellent, price is 30kn (4€) and you get 2 bruschettes. For the main meal my friends ordered chicken fillet stuffed with ham and cheese with grilled veggies, spaghetti, orrechiette (type of pasta) con forno, gnocchi with black truffles and some meat, tuna stake. I took beefstake (medium well) in sauce made of black truffles served with some pasta. Meat was tender and soft, It just melted in my mouth. Beef steak is 160kn (around 20€) I would say most expensive meal you can order here, other meals were around 80kn (11€), excpet tuna which is 110kn (15€). I have to say one thing about spaghetti meal, It should be a bigger portion, so you may stay hungry with that one, but It's also the cheapest meal - around 50kn. For dessert we ordered pancake with ice cram and forrest berries - delicious, tiramisu and choco mousse. White wine "Malvazija" from istria region was good as well appetizers like "vilijamovka" (rakija...
Read moreInside a restaurant, inside a town, inside a city.
At least, that’s the interior design. An Italian-style diner with walls painted and décor set up to resemble a charming little town. They even painted the AC unit. If I could give six stars for the atmosphere, I would.
Now, onto the main course (pun intended). We were here for lunch and had Spaghetti Aglio e Olio and a Mozzarella Margherita pizza. The spaghetti was very nice, seasoned correctly and served in a big portion too.
The pizza, on the other hand, was not everyday pizza. The crust was nicely crispy, but not nicely soft. The tomato sauce was dense and not watery, which is what I like (and tastes like tomatoes which is a plus). The mozzarella was good, but there was too much of it—it was thicker than the bottom dough, making it very heavy on the stomach.
In the end, we had two chocolate mousses, which were very good—nicely sweet and not too liquid.
The pricing is very good—surprisingly so, honestly. 40€ for two drinks, two meals, and two desserts.
All in all, a cute little lunch spot if you're looking for...
