Lovely Cozy Traditional Restaurant, you should not miss during your Zagreb visit.
Highly recommended by our hotel staff which is the best dinner we have for our Croatia trip. For one reason to visit Zagreb again, this restaurant definitely counts.
The restaurant is a grand-nies restaurant with history, but decent maintenance and well taken care. The decor is dated but not aged.
The glasses are all shining clear, the tablecloths are crispy straight without stains, the dishes served are preheat, and they serve napkins (not paper napkins). As a family restaurant with reasonable price, personally, I think it's more than attentive.
The waitress who served us, a lady in white hair, was very friendly.
After studying the reviews on Google Map, 2 of us, ordered mushroom soup, tripe stew, country lunch (which is a mix of 5 of a kind with cabbage roll, blood sausage, pork sausage, roasted ham, roasted pork loin, mashed potatoes & sauerkraut) as main, we are unable to finish them at all. Portion is very generous and very delicious, especially the Tripe stew.
For dessert, we first ordered the crepe with walnuts with white wine cream. Each portion came with 2 crepes. It was sooooooo yummy, white wine cream was very light. The crepe was thin and spongy, super yummy, we encored another order of crepe with ice cream, the ice cream was surprisingly delicious as well, it was creamy and no artificial vanilla scent. To be honest, their crepe is almost the best crepe I have ever tried.
The overall experience was excellent!! It really marked a perfect ending to our Croatia trip. ...

I came here for the home cooked meal the way my both grandmas used to make, and they nailed it!
Blast to the past in the best pbossible way. Christmas time is the time of year you spend with your family. This is my way to spend it with my grandparents, although I could be someone's 👵 by now 🙂
Here, I can find the slow food I don't do at home. My grandmas some days took 4 hours to cook a yummy lunch, which used to be the main meal of the day.
They did that with all their love, it was their "core business" since they got their kids. One of them was a math professor before that, and the other one was a seamstress, but she organised her work around the 2-3-4 hours it took to cook the lunch.
I can't afford that time because I have a company to run 🤷♀️ This restaurant is my way to have both 🥰
The name of the restaurant, Purger, is the name for the hard-working middle class citizens here in Zagreb. Mom and pop shops. Artisans. Small business owners, those that still make the vast majority of businesses in Croatia.
Since it's the second day of winter, I ordered SARMA (gooogle it!) and mashed potatoes, one of our favourite winter dishes, a glass of Pelješac red wine. For dessert I had crepes with walnuts in white wine mousse. (See the pictures)
As a local, I can attest, my both grandmas would have given them five stars.
Genuine traditional Zagreb cuisine 😍

Read moreI recently dined at Gostionica Restoran Purger and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. I feel compelled to share my disappointment and frustration with others to ensure they are aware of the issues I encountered.
Beef Soup with No Beef: I was particularly looking forward to savoring a hearty beef soup, but to my dismay, there was a complete lack of beef in the dish. It was nothing more than a bowl of plain broth. I found this misleading and highly unsatisfying. If I order beef soup, I expect to find actual beef in it. The absence of any meat made the dish bland and unappetizing.
Mixed Salad Mishap: The mixed salad I ordered was a far cry from what was advertised. Instead of a diverse assortment of fresh ingredients, it seemed like one or two components from other salads were thrown together haphazardly. The overall presentation and taste were underwhelming. Moreover, the portion size was ridiculously small, barely weighing in at around 150 grams. It felt more like an appetizer rather than a fulfilling salad. I hope this review serves as constructive feedback for the restaurant, encouraging them to improve their attention to detail, ingredient quality, and portion sizes. It is my sincere hope that they take steps to rectify these issues to provide a better experience for future diners.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Gostionica Restoran Purger to others who seek a satisfying meal with quality...
