Restoran "Stari grad 02" — Restaurant in Grad Pula

My husband and I are from Miami, FL (USA). We are here in Croatia for our honeymoon and have done a lot of research on the restaurants we wanted to eat at. For Pula, we had originally selected Farabuto as the restaurant to eat, however they would not seat us because we didn’t have a reservation (nowhere online does it specify that we needed one, by the way). No big deal, because it was the best thing that could have happened to us. We stumbled upon this gem in Pula, and this meal was easily one of the best meals I’ve ever had in my life.

We started with a white dry Istrian wine, which was to die for. It was the smoothest wine to drink. For appetizers we had some bread with anchovies on top, and some shrimp ravioli with black truffle that they make in house. AMAZING. Then for the main course, we shared a seafood platter that had fish, shrimp, prawns, swordfish, mussels, sardines, and a potato and spinach side dish. It was perfect. For dinner, we had a peach cake and their signature baklava. It was the best baklava I’ve ever had. And to top it off, they served us some olive and red wine brandy on the house to aid with digestion. I’m not sure if it works or not but it was so tasty!

Ask for Mateo (aka Matt) to be your waiter. You won’t be disappointed. I hope whoever made it to the end of my review is inspired to come and eat here because as the first dinner of our honeymoon, it was...

We visited this place because of local friend' recommendation, we even requested to book the table in advance, but despite the empty restaurant our reservation was not confirmed, so we came anyway, and it would be better not to do it. No one pays attention to the guests to welcome them here. AC was not working in the hall inside, then outside was +30 degrees. Just couple fans outside, but the waiter even didn't suggest such an option. We wanted to order something local and chose pasta with gulyash - it took 30 mins waiting and was awful, pasta undercooked together with overcooked. When the waiter heard the feedback, he just shrugged and took the plate away, the dish was incuded in the bill. Fresh salad - even no oil, no dressing, nothing. Just bellini I can say was fine. First time we were there it was delicious. We took Tris (filled grilled squid, grilled squid and fried squid for two, pomes- fries, palenta and swiss chard). I gave this place 5 stars for service. Last time we were there, oh boy were we surprised. Swiss chard was just boiled, no salt, no taste. Squids made us sick for the night, tastless and chewy like they were old. Fries was not even on the plate even though the waiter mentioned it as a part of the meal. Fried squid was hard and old. It was a disaster. We filed a complaint, paid for everything and left.
