Wow! It is obvious from the moment you enter Konoba Forno that they are passionate about food and about dining as a whole. The food is clearly cooked with love (as well as with tremendous skill) making for a memorable experience.
They’ll tell you with pride about the local farms and fisherman who provide all of their produce, fish, and meat. You will absolutely taste the quality of the ingredients.
Don’t skip the bread! It is perfect. I don’t say that lightly.
The primary kitchen is outdoors on the second floor, so you’ll get to see them sliding dishes into the wood fire brick oven and expertly arranging skewers above piping hot coals. On your other side you’ll have a stunning view of the Dalmatian coast, islands, and cheery sailboats and ferries. Beautiful vines cover the terrace and nice music adds to the ambience.
Everyone was extremely kind and accommodating. The brothers Luka and Matea even invited our young son into the kitchen when he expressed an interest in their ovens. It was evident in speaking with them just how much joy they get from giving people a marvelous dining experience.
My wife and I have been traveling through the Dalmatia Coast for several weeks and this has been our favorite meal in the region. You will not regret...
Read moreFantastic food, great service, stunning setting. Best food we had during our trip to Dubrovnik, by far! Vegetarian options are few but all delicious. They have a Mediterranean salad (can be vegan without cheese), baked eggplant (can be vegan without cheese), baked mushrooms (vegan), and bread (vegan). Everything was tasty, but the Mediterranean salad was spectacular! Had I known, I would have ordered two of those rather than the eggplant or mushrooms (which were good, but felt like they were lacking something for a main. Perhaps a side). We also tried their semolina dessert and the Dubrovnik cake and enjoyed both, though the cake was our favorite. It was SO flavorful, had a lovely texture, was not too sweet. Our one regret was not trying their homemade pasta because sadly they had no vegetarian pasta options —even the pasta with tomato sauce on the kids menu apparently is made with pancetta. The setting is also worth mentioning— a gorgeous terrace shaded by grapevines and overlooking the sea. It truly doesn’t get much better than that. Service was very friendly and top notch. Definitely...
Read moreThe view and ambiance is great. Lots of space between the tables. They even got a female care box in the bathroom. Our expectations were high due to the references here. However the food was a big disappointment. First off we ordered the mussels pasta as a starter. When we realized there was barely any mussels we asked the waiter who casually said it wasn’t the mussel pasta, but the seafood pasta because they had changed the menu. A bit strange not to mention this as we ordered? The pasta was also undercooked, and as an excuse they just said it’s because of the grain and because it’s home made. Strange then that half of the pasta was well cooked and half wasn’t. They didn’t even offer to compensate for this, still had to pay.
The main, whole grilled fish was nicely prepared, however it was extremely salty. Not only on the outside which would’ve been acceptable but also inside, so it seems like they’ve stuffed it with salt. The grilled vegetables were tasty, and the bread we got served first was REALLY good. But unfortunately a very disappointing meal for...
