Terrasita's Cafe — Restaurant in Cárdenas

Absurdly happy to have found this place. There's plenty of bad press about bland food in Cuba. These people have not been to Terrasita's. My mother in law and wise traveling companion suggested this "hole in the wall. " based on the clean but thoughtful exterior. We were there for supper but recognized it is more of a lunch spot. I will go back for a sandwich but that is not the point of this review. The dinner special of shrimps in tomato sauce which is not something I tend to go for but was truly pleased I did. So much flavor! Every bite I was making happy noises throughout the meal. I am a Cuban food convert. A family owned place with clean washrooms that are 5 stars by (my) Cuba standards. By that I mean they were in the restaurant, the door latched, there was a toilet seat, and had paper for both your "delicates" and hands. Attentive service with superb English communication. We have often found what we chalk up to be cultural differences when it comes to restaurant services. Last night for dinner we were at a different place a good 10 minutes before they even offered beverages. Everyone at the table was pleased with their entire plates. Even the veggies were perfectly ripe and expertly cut. I want people to go and support this deserving family establishment. Please treat them well. Prices were also beyond fair. The kind of people I would take a cooking lesson from... or let...

We've travelled a bit in Cuba and this was definitely the best cafe/ restaurant we've been to. Great prices, great portions (not the typical overpriced, rationed cone of rice and beans), great service and a friendly environment. Don't forget to ask for the off-menu specials, slightly more expensive but a 1/4 of the price you'd find anywhere else. They made our time in Varadero...

It's been a year since I've been here, but this place was the absolute best. My friend who I was travelling with and me went here multiple times a day while staying in varadero! The prices are insanely good, especially for Cuba, and they fit any budget. Ask for the hot sauce for the pizza and try the freshly made juice...
