So my review is solely based on a situation that might have been a one time thing but I'm not sure.... It was the day after hurricane Rafael. There was power outages all over Havana. Very few places were open. My friend and I were hoping that the restaurant across the street was open, "Paladar Los Mercaderes," but no luck, so I see this place on the corner open with a line of about 5 people waiting. I got closer to see what they were offering and saw they had one of my favorites, Ropa Vieja (shredded beef) with Morros (white rice and black beans mixed together) and the price was only 365 pesos! That's only $1.15! Yes, one dollar and fifteen cents!! I had to ask someone in line if that was the correct price and he looked at me, asked if I was American, I said yes. He said yes that's the correct price, for you it's practically free! He said it was very good, and yes I agree 100%, it was the best ropa vieja I've ever had in my life!! I've had the ropa vieja fron Doña Eutemia and from Antojos which are about $12 US and neither compared to ths $1 plate of deliciousness!! Now, here's the thing, it was my last day in Havana so I haven't been back. I'm wondering if they had that offering at that price for the locals because of the hurricane and I'm just the lucky tourist that got in on the low price?? I'll be back this December to find ou and I'll definitely eat there again and...
Read moreI and my girlfriend were here twice. The first time we came, we asked how much is americano coffee, which they said is 1CUC each. We enjoyed the coffee a lot so, we decided to come next day for the same. This time we did not ask for the price, as we knew from the day before and just ordered a cup each. As it started to rain we, we decided to take 2 more coffees (the total of 4). Eventually when we asked for the check, the total was 8CUC ( +0.8 CUC for service) and they claimed that it is a regular price for the coffee. The price of coffee is nowhere as they don't have paper menu apparently, but they have a whiteboard with some stuff on it.. One of the items on it was coffee with condensed milk (coffee bonbon) which was for 1.25CUC. How, on earth that can be almost twice as cheap as regular black coffee??? Plus, they do not print the bill, so really check what you order and for what price. Eventually, we paid 4.40CUC as what initially supposed to be. The worst, that as the service charge is included, I do not seem to be able to avoid paying for such a scam and crappy service.
I REALLY REALLY suggest to ask for prices and check it on a piece of "toilet paper" that they provide...
Read moreBit of a tourist trap. They don’t have a menu, so you don’t know what the prices are before you get the bill, which is hand written. They have a sign showing what you can order, however you can ask for other things (drinks). It’s set on a corner in a busy tourist area so it’s easy to get caught. There are much better, much more affordable places to go. The only good thing about this place was the location for...
