Ταβέρνα Ρόπας — Restaurant in Paralimni

If you are looking for a traditional taverna, with excellent food and very reasonable price- look no further! I visited here on a recommendation and it did not disappoint. The food was incredible! We had the meat meze and had heaps of food! Took me back to my childhood of home cooked Greek food by my yiayia and auntie when we visited Cyprus in the summers. Especially the kolokassi fries! The service was quick, attentive and staff happy to explain what some of the dishes were. It’s a family run business and the owner was so friendly and welcoming as were all the staff. The outside seating is filled with greenery with lemon trees and jasmine bushes. It felt like you were sitting in a families garden, wonderful atmosphere filled with many big Cypriot families enjoying the food which a big sign of amazing food to me. Thought we would try this restaurant as it was well reviewed. Arrived, a waiter barked at us asking if we had a reservation which we didn't but wasn't full or overly busy. Gestured us to go to a table, didn't show us to it. OK, was going to let that go but then the waiters proceeded to ignore us completely for 20 mins while they greeted, sat and took orders from other guests who arrived after us. We left at the 20 mins mark. I've been coming to Cyprus since the 90s and have NEVER had a restaurant treat a customer like this so this is only a reflection on this place but it was an appalling lack of customer service, rude and certainly wouldn't return. The tavern is bit away from tourists pathways. Not overcrowded at all. Mainly frequented by local people, also for take away. Has approx 30 tables inside. Run by a family since "last century" as they say. Has a lot of historical attributes for those who like retro.
