Loizos Koumparis Fish Tavern — Restaurant in Zygi

We were disappointed with both the service and the food. Despite having a reservation for 15:00, we arrived at 15:15. We ordered the fish meze, and to our surprise, nearly the entire spread was brought to our table from a trolley within just 10 minutes of ordering.

We rushed through our meal, trying to enjoy it before everything got cold and less appetizing.

After paying, we asked to speak with the manager to share our feedback. Mr. Loizos came over, and we explained that we had chosen a quieter time to avoid feeling rushed and to enjoy a leisurely meal. While he was understanding, a woman—possibly a co-owner—rudely interrupted, insisting that they’ve been in business for fifty years and know exactly how things should be done.

My advice: if you want a more relaxed experience, avoid busy times or ask to have the meze served in courses. Otherwise, there are plenty of nearby tavernas that offer better food, service, and overall atmosphere. Larnaca near castle area also has some very nice...

I would not recommend this place unless you like battered, deep-fried fish and processed "seafood" products and even then, the service was very poor also. To be a bit more balanced the actual mezze element of the "fish mezze" was ok - really nice taramas and feta, salad was a bit over dressed but otherwise fine. Olives were exceptionally bitter. We never did get the coffee that was included and the dessert was just watermelon,which also was not quite ripe. To put it bluntly, the serving staff actually don't care, the kitchen staff don't seem to care (I was almost in tears at the terrible treatment of some of the fish, and almost sick with the fact some of the deep-fried "fresh" fish was off - even the local stray cats would not eat it!) and that lack of care comes through in the entire experience. I rated this place a 2 out of 5 on this occasion. This is because of inconsistency. On other occasions it would have had a 4. On todays occasion , the restaurant was full and you would automatically assume that it has to be good. In reality all the fish restaurants in the area were full. We ordered baby Calamari and octopus all with chips and salad. The salad, drinks and aperitifs arrived quickly but the food took an age, understandable I suppose. The problem was that the Calamari was very tough and not really acceptable for a place with its reputation. I am a Calamari eater and was very disappointed.
