SANTA ELENA RESTAURANT — Restaurant in Zygi

We visited mid of December with very bad experience. Staff was not happy to see any guests, otherwise the restaurant was empty but opened. Nothing was possible, we were trying to order with our bad greek, but they were not really keen to help, even if we showed greek items from the menu. We ordered starters and two fishes (quite overpriced). Taste was so so. Waitress started to take half empty plates and threw at us the bill, even we didn’t yet finished. It was really surprise for us, as we had here always pleasant experience. After today, this restaurant is on no-go list. Open hours are declared as from 11:00 till 23:00. We arrived at 14:00, occupied a table and there were also two other tables occupied by Englishmen or Germans. For 20(!) minutes nobody arrived to bring menu and get the order. When I asked if someone would kindly feed us the owner told me that kitchen is closed and will be opened from 19:00. He even didn’t suggest a glass of water. Meanwhile,two other tables were fully served. Maybe this place is for specials only or it works well only in high season... nevertheless,it’s simply impolite not to suggest your guest a glass of water. We ate here yesterday, the individuals in the group ordered the Mussels, sea Bass, spaghetti and grilled octopus. The fish was fresh although the flavours were simple and in my opinion more seasoning is required but I guess that is a personal preference however most of our group felt the same so it was not just me. The vegetables that accompanied the food were tasty and I think they are home grown by the owner. The meal was good value for money coming in at less than 20 euros per person and that was woth s beer each.
