Steak House K1 — Restaurant in okres Brno-město

The location is lacking. Away from the center and situated in one of the less safe neighborhoods in Brno. That being said the building is gorgeous!

The food is where it gets weird, unfortunately. We ordered the carpaccio (the beef and salmon) and it was everything I expected and more!

The next course was Steak au poivre (or something slightly equivalent in translation). It arrived bloody, pun intended, raw. Having asked for medium rare I was slightly socked by the not only the red beef, but also by the complete lack of sear or any kind of color on the outside at all. It was barely gray. I sent it back after waiting for about 15 minutes for the waiter to notice my cut but uneaten food. He apologized and brought a new steak, which looked a damn side better than the first. However, a bite or two betrayed the real issue: the steak was smoked! Not the smoked steak delicacy that some travel far and wide to taste, but a pre-smoked and warmed cut of rump steak.

My companion and I were both flummoxed to the point we were both questioning whether we were just imagining things. The fact remained that the steak dinner that was supposed to be a wonderful Valentine's date was ruined by an either incompetent or mischievous chef. The waiter later apologized, saying 'one of your steaks was over done' and only charged us for one, but never adressed the issue. I only wished for a mediocre steak; medium rare with pepper sauce and all I got was raw beef and a couple of mouthfuls of salty, overpoweringly...

If the restaurant were rated solely on the food, I would give it 5 stars. However, since ratings also consider service, ambiance, ease of reservation, and other factors, my overall rating is 3 stars.

Every time (this has now been 4 visits), when we enter the restaurant, the waiters act as if they are doing us a favor by seating us. Let me remind you, it’s your job to be friendly. One of them even rolled his eyes. And it's not just with us; every time, whether it's someone standing in front of us or arriving after us, they always look annoyed and have an attitude.

The waiter spilled water on the table while serving it, didn’t wipe it up, and didn’t apologize.

The same waiter placed forks right in front of a one-year-old child’s face. What could be going through someone's mind to not consider basic safety rules?

In all 4 visits, we never had a dedicated waiter for our table. At least 3 different waiters were involved, and they always were unsure about the order.

I booked this place for our team building for 8 people. First of all, it was possible to book it by call, and the restaurant representative was able to understand and reply in English. Also, the waiter, who was taking care of us this evening, was English speaking, and we got an English menu (the picture is attached below). That means a lot for me and my colleagues as we are expats and for some of us it might be difficult to understand Czech. Additionally, I expected only meat dishes here, but in the menu there were salmon and tuna steaks and some vegetarian food as well like gnocchi with spinach and grilled goat cheese (see the attached photos).
