A culinary redemption in Ostrava
After two days spent in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, my culinary hopes, expectations, and cravings had been completely crushed. Even in well-rated places, the quality of ingredients was decent—but the flavors simply weren’t for me.
Just as I was about to cross the border back into Poland, I made a spontaneous stop for lunch at Loft in Ostrava. And wow—why wasn’t I here earlier?
A super modern interior, friendly staff, everything on point—it all started promisingly. We ordered the fish and, allegedly the house specialty, the beef ribs.
Well... I was blown away.
I had the ribs, and I must say—this was some of the best-cooked beef I’ve had in a very long time: perfectly tender, full of flavor, melting in the mouth. It came with a rich, deep beef sauce and a light vegetable purée (I don’t remember which vegetables exactly, but it was delicious)—just incredible.
My partner went for the fish with lentils and was equally amazed. I only tried the lentils, and even that was a flavor bomb.
To finish, we shared a chocolate soufflé—also very solid.
Without a doubt, from now on, whenever I pass through Ostrava and need lunch—this is the place. The surrounding area is nothing special, but this restaurant is an...
Read morePlace was almost empty when we arrived, we sat down, asked if we could change to mezzanine level where windows were open (downstairs they were closed, atmosphere felt a bit stuffy) only to be told that that area is closed, even though the tables were set, we thought it rarher weird. We ordered and drinks arrived promptly (served in wrong order, tap water 10 zl), food arrived promptly, was nicely presented and rather tasty, however small portioned. When we asked for the bill the waiter was hanging around all the time with the terminal where we needed some time to figure out how to pay, the waiter also insisted on a 10 percent service charge which I thought was a bit pretentious, I was thinking more like five percent with the waiter being rather gruff and almost rude. Okay, the food was nice, the facilities were clean, the place was decorated with nice industrial touches, metal and wood, enameled dinner plates, interesting, too bad the waiter took away some of our pleasure in the dining experience. I am NOT deliberately trying to find fault, I think service and attitude are an essential part of any dining experience and the food was not so awesome to make me overlook the questionable attitude of the...

Seemed like a nice place to book after going to the zoo, which turned out to be in the rain. Staff were absolutely amazing, fluent in English and Polish, which I wasn't expecting. They were also really patient whilst we sorted out one baby and what 3 excited children were eating.
The vibe of the place is great, cardboard place mats and a textile napkin were very nice touches. The layout of the place was also very cool.
Definitely recommend the non-alcoholic beer, especially to anyone driving as there's stricter drink driving laws here AND it tasted good.
Then the FOOD. Didn't manage a picture of the Tom yum soup but it was very tasty, just enough spice in it for my taste. The Mrs and I shared mains of duck with red cabbage & potato dumplings and "48" beef with celeriac puree. Both were superb, but the beef blew us away, it was so tender and there was...
