Overall: inconsistent. As someone who does not like the cheap, low quality shortcuts that pass as Indian cuisine in other cities, I was excited to hear recommendations about Namaste from many people we know when we moved to Esbjerg. We finally ordered it for my husband's birthday dinner in November and were delighted to receive deliciously homemade soft paneer, flavorful tender lamb, and buttery naan. Clearly there was love and effort that went into that food, and we were thrilled to have such a restaurant nearby. A few weeks later when we ordered again, it was as if a different chef was in the kitchen, using different techniques and recipes. I ordered the same dish as before but the paneer was different, along with the garnishes. Both dishes, ordered "medium spice' - the same as the first time - were ridiculously spicy to the point where we couldn't finish them. I am from the American south (I put hot sauce on everything) and love spicy food. But this was not enjoyable. We were confused, after such a nice first experience but thought perhaps it was a fluke and that the kitchen had an bad night. A couple months pass and we decide to try again. This time, we again had a delicious meal, we loved the food, and we therefore felt that the previous experience was surely an accident. Finally, a month or so later, we ordered dinner (yesterday). Unfortunately, what arrived was very disappointing. Both meals were again above the spicy level of medium that we ordered. My husband was instantly sweaty and had a hard time taking even small bites. In addition, my meal had a bitterness to it that completely overwhelmed all the other flavors of the dish. It was as if dried spices used for cooking (like star anise or bay leaves) were left whole, forgotten, and not removed before serving the dish. I was unable to eat more than 4 bites of my bitterly spiced meal. We also ordered the paneer pakoras as starters, which were dry and flavorless. They looked like no other pakora we have eaten anywhere before (picture below). We were both very frustrated, as we do not like the idea of wasted food, nor do we have the budget to order dinner and not eat it. To their credit, I called the restaurant, they listened to my comments, apologized, thanked me for the feedback, and offered a mango lassi the next time we order, which I politely declined. But I am not sure if/when we will try to order again. Even after mixing in some yogurt to dilute the bitterness, there was still no change in flavor. We now feel like it is 'rolling the dice' to order from Namaste, not knowing if we will get the delicious version, or the strange, unappetizing version. We really want to like this restaurant and give them our full support, but the inconsistency makes it too...

However, I would particularly like to emphasise Simran, who makes a visit at Namaste Esbjerg a very special experience with her warmth, attentiveness and positive charisma.
She doesn't make you feel like a guest, but like a friend. She lives hospitality in a way that comes from the heart - attentive, respectful and at the same time incredibly warm.
We enjoyed shahi korma masala, butter masala with paneer and delicious naan breads - the food is very delicious, but the chef & Simran are the true heart of the restaurant. 🤍 You can feel that they care about the well-being of their guests. Thank you so much for this early dinner and for the speciality mojito mocktails 🍸🤩

Read moreWe went at the restaurant yesterday expecting to get great food as the reviews said. What we got instead was below par food quality and abysmal drinks that were not even going down our throats. We ordered 2 curries and naan along with paneer tikka sizzler. Those were average! However the real disappointment were the drinks. We ordered 3 mango lassies and one alcohol free pinacolada. The lassi was very salty and just food colour added to it. There was mo sign of mangoes. Also with pinacolada, it was just water with some syrup added to it. Very disappointing! We also told this review to a person working there and they mentioned that this complaint is very common by indian customers. I hope they change the recipes next time for the drinks. With the money they charged, the food was not at all up-to the expectations. However, the ambience and...
