Sacre bleu ! Bouillon, kitchen from my home country and probably inspired by the local chain of restaurant with the same name, is gambling on serving us in Frederiksberg good food at an affordable price.
Let's be clear, it's quite a challenge in Copenhagen, but they overcame it.
The portions are indeed not the biggest but if you experience it fully and traditionally, from starter to dessert with cheese in between, you'll definitely not be starving.
The quality is there, it's not the finest kitchen but no one expects that for such a budget. It's very traditional and not aiming for too much. They deliver accurate and similar taste to what I've been used most of my life.
As for starters, we took the pâté, that I've been missing so much here (as it is quite hard to find a good and decent one) and was satisfied with it. It is served traditionally with pickles. We also had the oinion soup which was very good!
Regarding mains, you should definitely try the duck with the gratin dauphinois which tasted a bit sweet for what it should (seemed to come from the cream). But definitely worth it and generous. The ratatouille served with the fish is also decent and tasty, with a very pleasant texture.
Last but not least, we chose crumble apple and mousse au chocolat. The mousse was too chocolaty for me, lacking sweetness, but it is personal taste. However the crumble was so delicious! The ice-cream, the cinnamon, every thing was well balanced!
On top of all these, you'll be enjoying a very warm service!
Overall, it was such a nice experience and highly recommand it! Be aware that you should book as...
Read moreI wish I had found this restaurant much sooner during my vacation, it was the single best dining experience I've had in Copenhagen! We took a 3-course menu which, in most of the capital's restaurants, will cost you dearly. The prices at Bouillon were very attractive though, and you can have wonderful gastronomic experience including wine for under 300 DKK.
About the food: absolutely amazing! The tartare as first course was freshly cut and well-seasoned with capers and shallot. Up next, the duck was so tender it fell right of the bone. The ratatouille brought me right to the South of France, but was even trumped by the gratin dauphinois. It was delicious and had a nice sweet touch (I'm assuming because of some caramelized onions, but can be wrong). The Merlot wine of French origin was fruity and combined very well with the meaty dishes. The crème brûlée, a classic in the French cuisine, was spot on as well and passed the "spoon-crack test" with success! The presentation of the dishes was never really refined, but I guess that was due to the busy nature of the restaurant, and the focus on taste rather than appearance.
The service was fast and friendly, even taking the time to explain about allergens for gluten-intolerant people in our group. A table at Bouillon is in high demand, which is why our reservation was only valid for 1:45 and the personnel really keeps you to that timeline. Nevertheless, we did not feel rushed and had a...

Ultra standardized procedures, methods, dishes and service. This is absolutely not a negative thing because the end product is a nice restaurant type environment, where you get ok food and quite affordable prices. This is something we need a lot more of in Copenhagen to be honest.
We had three dishes each, and drinks and paid 588,- (or something along those lines). Very very difficult to beat. Everything of course has to be very streamlined and efficient to manage such a price point, and it is. You can’t change the dishes or tweak anything for example.
We started of by being served some very dry bread. After that we both had the beef tartare. It was quite ok, but lacked any complex flavor.
Then I had the pepper steak. Cooked nicely, rather small but delicious. The sauce was also great. The fries reminded me of those horrible ones you get at the gas station cafeteria. It tasted like a fryer that haven’t had the oil switched out during a 500 pax service.
The creme brulee was absolutely wonderful. My partner had the blueberry crumble which was ok.
All in all a nice experience. The price to value ratio is perfect and should be copied by more. It’s a way of providing a nice sit down experience for everyone, with a price point that also is...
