I came with some coworkers during a work trip to Beefstouw and really enjoyed the experience.
The decor is warm and inviting and the natural touches in the decor gave it a stylish but comfortable vibe.
The menu is definitely a celebration of meat and the steaks here are a local favorite for my coworkers. But don't think that beef is all you can get at Hereford Beefstouw. I tried the lamb rack and it was a perfect medium with great seasoning. They also offer fried shrimp and smoked and raw marinated salmon served with bread and two really great sauces. The sides are simply fries or baked potatoes but they make a good companion to the entrees, who are the real stars of this restaurant.
The restaurant also has a lot of great drink options as well with an extensive list of well rated wines and a wall of armagnac (the single distilled version of cognac) to choose from.
At the end, it was really the service that sets the restaurant apart. The staff was helpful and engaging and the salmon appetizer and the Hereford cocktail both receive table side treatment that gives you an inner look at how your items are prepared. Unfortunately, the flavors of the dishes were quite ordinary, and the meat could have been better seasoned. Considering the price of around 60 euros for a ribeye, you would expect a higher quality, but it was lacking in that aspect.
The preparation of the meat was decent, but there was room for improvement. A piece of meat should melt in your mouth, and the fat should be well seasoned to ensure the meat remains tender and juicy.
It was very odd to see miso soup on the menu, but it was a huge disappointment. You'd be better off finding it at a Chinese restaurant.
The side dishes appeared to lack freshness and could have used additional seasoning, as they tasted somewhat bland.
