La Cava Kitchen and Bar — Restaurant in Higüey

DO NOT ORDER THE CHICKEN WINGS ( tasted like it was not washed and had the game taste) BURGER (beef may have been out to long) OR LOBSTER MAC & CHEESE ( really bad with crunchy macaroni) !!!! Spent over 11000 pesos (over $190 USD). The restaurant is clean and nice. Service great. The food was not at all what I expected. Went the re with my kids and unfortunately had to take them back to the hotel for lunch again. I did appreciate the fact that they asked my why the chicken wings was not good. But they lacked in offering another dish or taking it off the charge. Also there was an over charge, on the menu the lobster Mac & cheese was for 2200 pesos, but was charged 3300. I didn’t contest as my kids were hungry and just wanted to get out of there and get some food. Maybe these are not there best dishes. I was not impressed with the tuna...

We ordered a fish filet which we found out they didnt have after all the orders have been put in and were served half way. The server comes to us and offers a whole fish dish that's not on the menu. He comes back with a bill that's about fifteen dollars more than what it should have been with the fish filet. We asked him where the difference is coming from and he just tells us that it's a more expensive dish. When told the waitsr that he should have let us know the price difference when he offered the dish, the guy just gave us a shrug, saying "I tell you now". the whole fish dish was 50% more expensive than what we tried to order in the first place, the filet. Great place to enjoy a nice romantic dinner. The employees are very nice and they do their best to please the customers.

The only reason I gave a 4-star is because my $1,300 peso meal ended up costing me almost $4,000 pesos. In American money, my meal basically went from about $27 bucks to $70.

From what the waitress explained. There were a little over 3 different taxes charged on my bill, including the gratuity.

So, yes. It was a shocker when I received my bill.

Could I eat there again? Yes.

Would I go back to eat there again? No.

The additional taxes and fees would prevent me from ever going back.
