Disappointed to be writing this review as this this the 3rd time coming to this hotel and this was my favourite restaurant.
We have attended this restaurant on multiple occasions and loved it and had booked it multiple times for this trip.
On this occasion unfortunately it was really poor, we attended the restaurant 25 minutes late due to having a baby and with renovations in hotel meaning we needed to walk much further than the usual route from Fantasia hotel.
On arrival we were told the reservation was cancelled. I asked to speak to the manager who came and told me it was cancelled and walked away from the host. I explained we had my grandson with us and had the longer walk which took extra time to the host. We were happy to sit a la carte if that was acceptable.
The manager Bakki would not even come back to speak to me she was so dismissive I had to go into ask her to speak to me.
I explained that this was our favourite restaurant, we had our older daughter with us and our grandson with us for the first time. We were slightly late but there were reasons.
I would like to say that Miguel and the host were empathetic and were happy to look for solutions but the manager in the picture (I was advised her name was Bakki) was totally dismissive and the fact she would not even come back to speak to me.
As a result of this we cancelled the further 2 visits we had booked for the 2 week holiday.
This will certainly factor in whether we chose to come to the Bahia moving forward as this is certainly not the service levels I am looking for.
Hopefully this was an isolated incident as was not what I expected from...
Read moreThis was easily the low light of our 6 day stay at the resort, and by far the worst Tepanyaki/Hibachi experience we have ever had.
Guest services highly recommended this place when making our reservation, so we were excited to have this be our dinner for the last night.
When we arrived the hostess was rude, but whatever, we are here to get wowed and have a fun dinner with our kids. It got worse from here.
We were seated in the middle of the dining room, no Tepanyaki chef or cooking nook in sight. We could see that there WERE Tepanyaki rooms, one in each corner of the restaurant - which accounted for about half of the available seating. The other half of the restaurant were not so lucky, and were simply seated at regular tables - we were part of the unlucky bunch.
When I inquired about it with our server, she shrugged and said the Tepanyaki rooms were fully booked. I said we also made a reservation at the Tepanyaki restaurant - but apparently not in the actual room. What's the point?!
The "best" part: the menu was still the same and let us choose from 4 Tepanyaki proteins, no idea why, since no chef was going to prepare it at our table.
Once the food came, one course was worse than the next. The sushi was genuinely awful (the sushi that was made to order in the all you can eat buffet next door was better). The "Miso Soup" was the worst Miso soup I have ever had, and I'm frankly not even sure it was Miso soup at all. And the chicken/shrimp/fish protein dishes were basically on par with the buffet food as well (I assume the same chef.)
Highly recommend to avoid this restaurant at all cost when staying...
Read moreWhen anyone books to dine in a Japanese restaurant, I think it’s safe to say we expect elegance, cleanliness, fresh food. At Mikado (during our all inclusive stay at Catalonia Bavaro Resort) it was anything but! We were sat on a U shaped large table, around the cooking station where the “chef” came in and started making funny melodic sounds and asking us to follow (pa para pa pa (pause) Pam Pam - if you know you know). It was very childish and circus-like that some folks’ reactions around the table included dropped jaws in disbelief. The shocking part however was that the sushi was PRE-prepared! The plates came in cold from the fridge with wrinkly sushi bites. Obviously skipped those. Then the chef continued to cook everything on the station. Rice. Vegetable. Chicken. Meat. Fish. Without cleaning the station except by scrapping burnt leftovers between ingredients. But then proceeded to reheating the veggies on top of where he had just cooked meat. The taste was average. But the overall experience was clown like. I feel if any Japanese person walked in, they would have been extremely offended. Oh and best part was they were out of chopsticks! And a glass of sake arrived cold instead of warm. And the wine was purely terrible. What a...
