El Olivo — Restaurant in Higüey

The restaurant itself looks nice. We were seated fairly quickly and were provided water as well as a wine menu right away. After this, the service took entirely way too long. 3 other tables were seated after us and were served before us.

We finally received our apps after 45 min. I expected the apps to be good after the long wait but the food wasn't great. We ordered the duck fois gras and the cream of pea soup. The portions were extremely small which you can see from the photos.

We were finally brought a welcome cocktail after our apps which was ok.

After another long wait, we finally received our entres. We ordered confit shrimp and the salmon and seafood Timbale. The taste was pretty good but portions again were on the smaller side.

Finally for desert we had the Chocolate volcano which was good. We also had the puff pastry which was okay. We ordered coffee, which our waiter never brought over and our table was pretty much forgotten about.

Not sure if my expectations were too high but I expected more from...

My friends and I went to El Olivo in Bahía Príncipe Aquamarine on March 26th/2022 to celebrate the 65th birthday party of my partner. We spent a great time thanks to Mayra and all the restaurant staff that made her birthday dinner just awesome! I ordered a birthday cake for the occasion and it was a great surprise for her. Even though she was sick to her stomach, the staff did their best to make her enjoy the party. Thank you all! The dinner was very good, all of us tried cream of peas soup with Iberian ham and scented with mint for starters. For the Main course, stuffed red snapper flan with shrimps, spinach, and ricotta, others ordered beef steak and salmon. Every meal was very good. Of course, for desserts, the birthday cake! Super nasty!! I hate to say it, but this restaurant was worse than the gross buffet. Couldn't get a reservation until 9:30 PM at night. We get there and just keep sitting. Finally place an order and the drinks come out. We are a table of 3 friends and 2 out of 3 of us got nauseous and sick after this meal! I started feeling horrible after consuming the drink. I ate a little bit of whatever the beef plate was that contained potatoes. After consuming a little bit, I literally had to leave the restaurant as I felt so sick! My friend and I cancelled the dessert, other friend ate it. Service was terrible. You don't even get acknowledged if you are not of a Spanish descent. This was probably the worst meal of my life and I still throw up in my mouth just thinking about it. I had to delete all my pictures of the food I took because it made me feel sick!!
