Here's a cozy place in a cozy town with BIG flavor and tremendous hospitality. The Persian House of Mindo has a unique menu that is a welcome break from the usual food offerings in this part of Ecuador. Not that the local traditional cuisine is boring or bad, it's actually very good. However, the Persian House brings in true Persian dishes and gives it a local flair. Try the national Persian dish, Gormeh Sabzi, or savor the kuku sabzi with its crispy outside and aromatic herbal ingredients (similar to quiche). How about ordering the mirza, the yummy eggplant dish, or the wonderfully seasoned beef /potato cutlet, and save room for the lentil soup. You really can't go wrong because everything is prepared and served wonderfully. The color and aromas add to the attraction of the food. While we were there, a couple of other tourists dropped by hoping to find vegetarian dishes. They also were very pleased with the food. But don't think everything is vegetarian! There are meat dishes seasoned wonderfully and served with a special garlic sauce crafted by the owners. The husband and wife team with actual Persian roots really know how to make guests feel fully satisfied and welcome in their home-style establishment. Prices are very reasonable, the portions are very large, and the homestyle atmosphere is very appealing. Persian House does not fill a big space on the block, but fills a big space in the culinary offerings of Mindo...and your stomach! Totally worth looking for should you come anywhere near...
Read moreDelicious, homemade food! We have been craving vegetables while traveling because Ecuadorian restaurants often serve just lettuce or slices of tomatoes - not safe because they’re not adequately washed. Here, the dishes are full of fresh vegetables cooked into them. We were given fresh lentil soup as an appetizer. We ordered four large dishes for two people: mirza (eggplant), kuku sabzi (vegetable fritter), baghali ghatoogh (green bean scramble), and khoresh karafs (beef and celery stew). Too much food but we couldn’t help ourselves!
My husband happens to be from Iran and the two of us have very high standards for Persian food. This met the standards! We spoke with the owners in Farsi and they explained that they are very careful with washing the vegetables, including in the salad that accompanies each dish, because they themselves are worried about hygiene they’ve seen in restaurants here. Also, they purchase everything fresh from the market every morning. Much...
Read moreA quaint and cozy Persian spot in Mindo that I 1000% recommend. Firstly the ambience feels like you’re at home about to eat a homemade meal from your Iranian family. The owners Sol and Vahid are so kind, welcoming and humble and that made the experience there even more memorable. We shared stories about each other’s backgrounds and where we came from. The food…JUST WOW! INCREDIBLE.
For two people, we ordered the Falafel (must try), Mirza (eggplant dish wow), and the Kuku Sibzamini (fried potato cakes). We also ordered 2 extra servings of falafels to go to have at home too!
You can taste the love and I truly have a newfound love and appreciate for persian food thanks to Sol and Vahid.
If you are in Mindo and you’re looking to try something different from the typical Ecuadorian cuisine (which i love too), I definitely recommend you pay Sol and...
