Where to start? Approximate waiting time: one hour, even though we were the only ones in the restaurant. We thought, "Maybe it's for the best—it must mean the food is fresh..." Freshly cooked, maybe, or freshly defrosted.
The mixed seafood platter (calamari, octopus, and shrimp) was awful—tough and dry. The seafood tajine turned out to be a tomato stew with skins and 2-3 calamari rings.
On the house, but still charged, was an eggplant salad where someone had clearly dropped the entire salt shaker, along with another eggplant salad that was barely edible and to not forget the burnt rice. The butterfly shrimp were drowned in oil and completely tasteless.
The bill was nicely handwritten, with an added 10% service charge (probably for dusting off the chairs before we sat down).
The whole experience cost 1100 EGP. At the Marriott Mena House in Giza, you can get an amazing Indian menu for two for that price.

Read moreGreat restaurant in the heart of historic Alexandria. I was just strolling around and came across a very clean, modern, near and tidy restaurant. It is a small kitchen and serves both street food that you can take away/ eat on the go, as well as dishes that you can enjoy on their cozy promenade. I had a fried shrimp sandwich which was amazing and really cheap, and as I was still hungry, I ordered some grilled shrimp and fried shrimp rice. I clearly ordered too much, and was stuffed in the end. All the dishes were really good and the price very acceptable. They put the food I didn't eat in a container for later.
The staff were really nice and made me feel welcome from the start as well as the owners, that showed up later. They were honest and were genuinely interested in providing the best possible service, asking me for feedback on the food.
Amazing experience! I cannot...
Read moreA hidden gem among all those street restaurants! It‘s just across a beautiful mosque and if you don‘t mind sitting at a table on the sidewalk, then this is the place to eat fresh seafood!
I had a shrimp tagine with red sauce and as a little contrast cheese fries. If had known, what comes along with the tagine, then I would have given the fries a pass. The tagine was still sizzling in the pot when it came. The salad was fresh and simply scrumptious and the rice was perfectly seasoned.
It was absolutely delicious and only because I was very hungry I almost managed to eat all of it.
I’m so happy that I will have another night in Alexandria because I will definitely revisit Sidi!
Highly...
