Cowboy/Texas themed bar/restaurant 2.5 km from Bole International airport. Right from the entrance, the security, waiters, supervisor and manager are all in cowboy hats and shirts. The menu is also cowboy hut shaped. The raw stone and brick wall finishing is full of photos and mouldings depicting Cowboy/Texas lifestyle. The crowd here is mature and decent - previously popular with diplomats, top businessmen and lawyers as well as popular artists. Though it’s open the better part of the day, the best time to get here is from six in the evening. With nicely tuned loud speakers, the soul music of the 70’s and 80’s projected on a big screen is played most of the time coupled with Ethiopian soul and groove. African and pop music takes less of the airtime. The food is very delicious and the bar is well stocked with all the drinks you can imagine. Though pricey, Rodeo is one of the few places in Addis Ababa you will find genuine drinks especially for whisky, vodka, rum and best cocktails. In both indoor and outdoor spaces, smoking is not allowed at all times. Most evenings, the manager is usually present at the bar to serve drinks and mix cocktails, sometimes in the kitchen as chef and sometimes as DJ. Again this is a place with very low staff turnover - have known some staff here for more than seven years – probably because of the good management and pay. The only drawback for Rodeo is the road leading to the place is very bad and the parking is very tight, though secure. This is a place you would like to try on you visit to...
Read moreWouldn't recommend it for their unhigenic food!!!! Even tho the atmosphere is nice the service and food was a disaster. We had went on a fasting night and we ordered fasting food (vegan) while our foods get ready we ordered some cocktails and when it came one of the cocktails we ordered wasn't a fasting cocktail (it had milk) even tho the waiter never advised that even tho she heard we ordered a fasting food we thought it's our order no worries we will pay for it. Well when one of our foods came I almost chocked on a huge bone found in my food (in my fasting food a bone). Called the waiter and explain what happened and she rushed in to the kitchen only to come back and try to blame us saying it might be a bone flickered from on of the other foods we ordered (a boneless food). After furiously explaining how that sounds ridiculous they apologized and admitted its from the kitchen. We told them we want to speak to the manager to explain how unhigenic the kitchen must be for a bone to get into fasting sandwich but they wouldn't call him for us we waited for a while a got tired and got our bills and left. Left unhappy...
Read moreI absolutely love this place, except for Saturday nights. It’s honestly a shame because the atmosphere and the food are incredible, but the service completely tarnishes the experience. The restaurant is always understaffed, and the waitstaff seems unfit for handling the busy crowds. There's this one particular guy, a tall figure with a cowboy hat who stands at the entrance, who honestly gives off a vibe that doesn't match the restaurant's image at all. He actually sells tables to people he perceives as 'well off,' completely disregarding the other patrons who might not have the same financial appearance. It’s incredibly off putting to be turned away when there are clearly tables available especially when it feels like they’re making up new reservations for others, who aren’t even on the books. It’s especially intimidating when you're denied seating and made to feel like you don’t belong, while others are let in, with no regard for fairness. This behavior is so frustrating because it not only makes you feel excluded, but it damages the reputation of a place that could be...
