Tomoca Coffee was founded in Addis Ababa in 1953, making it one of the oldest commercial coffee roasting enterprises in Ethiopia.

The name “TOMOCA” comes from Italian Torrefazione Moderna Caffé (meaning “modern coffee roasting”).

It started as a coffee roaster and café, and has since expanded to many branches around Addis and beyond.

The brand has become something of a local institution: a place not only for coffee but for experiencing Addis’s coffee culture.

What to Expect

During my brief visit to Addis Ababa, I had the pleasure of visiting Tomoca, a local coffee shop. Despite my limited time in the city, I found the experience to be quite enjoyable. The staff, though not fluent in English, were friendly and welcoming, and we were able to communicate effectively. The coffee, as anticipated, was excellent, and the overall experience was enhanced by the friendly atmosphere created by the staff.
