My plans to visit here in Father’s Day don’t work out since the restaurant is closed in Sundays. Weeks later, my wife and I went here on a Friday night. I was really looking forward to it. However, as the night progressed, my excitement turned to disappointment. The first food item—miso soup—arrived over 30min after ordering. Due to a misunderstanding, only one soup arrived. I requested another, and the server told me it would take a while to make. Really? Miso soup? Isn’t that a Japanese restaurant staple? I wasn’t willing to wait 15+ minutes, so I tasted my wife’s and waited for the other food to arrive. A few minutes later, the other food came. It was good, but the long wait and the awkward service experience took away from it. I won’t go into details about the service, but there were several times in which the 2-3 servers/staff seemed to lack an awareness of what good customer service required at the moment. They were polite, but just unaware. Perhaps the owner could treat these servers to a meal at a nice restaurant and allow them to experience the attention to detail, empathy, etc. that comes with great service. Our final order for the night was dessert. We were told the kitchen closes at 9pm, so we’d need to make our selection quickly. I didn’t realize this would be the case on a Friday night! Anyway, we ordered green tea ice cream. It took longer to arrive than expected. When it did, I was let down by the extra bitter taste. Bummer. I really like green tea ice cream :-( Bottom line: I’d go back. The food was good, and it was a decent representation of Japanese food I’ve had elsewhere. My hope is that the management does some more training for staff and addresses the slow speed of...
Read moreThe place is a bit hidden but it is very spacious and nicely decorated. Since I visited around the time when it opened, it was empty. Even when the number of guest rose it was still very lovely and the place has a lot of privacy. The service was fast and the people serving explaind everything very well.
I ordered the rice and miso set, the spicy sesemi ramen and the udon . Like the other reviews said the spicy sesmi Ramen🍜 was very heavy, which was great because me and my husband were hungry. The rice and miso soup 🍲 were served first with was lovely and it reminded me of my childhood. It was also nice to share it with my husband. The only disappointment was the shrimp tempura 🍤. The tempura batter was very fishy which made the shrimp teast more like fish then what I wished to eat. The upon also had the tempura batter which changed the teast of the broth. I recommend for people who don't like the strong fish smell not to order the udon.
Also just as a suggestion if you plan to go there go earlier because a lot of guest come during lunch time also the prices may change from what is on Google maps picture. I highly recommend this place if you want to try japanese food. I will definitely come again to try something different because there is so much they offer. Definitely coming to try the steamed bun...
Read moreI've been when I might stand a friend for a special supper on a special occasion.
Like a lot of nice write-ups here about this 'Sakura Japanese Restaurant', we really hit the jackpot.
The first impression was to see several Ethiopian staff cooking in the open kitchen in front of the entrance stairs, giving us high expectations of the international cuisine to come. This, from the outset, is bound to be dear to the diners with high expectations of the restaurant
I suppose we've got to the bottom of its outstanding quality because it's run by an international couple, Japanese and Ethiopian. That's why there are two sets of eyes on quality control from both sides.
They are the only ones who can make whatever is about to happen in #Addis Ababa, Ethiopia worthwhile in terms of Japanese cuisine as one of the international cuisines.
Attentive service and traditional Japanese food are well preserved by the many Ethiopian staff in a good way that comes from...
