As a fan of the Fat Lizard beers, this restaurant was something I was waiting for as soon as I knew it was gonna be a thing. I decided to wait for the soft launch and a few weeks more, because as with all restaurants and bars, the final form of the service, food and the whole atmosphere only starts to take after a week or two from launch.
So I went in with a few friends, who were visiting from further off. Firstly, the location is something brilliant! Right next to the subway station, no hassle, no fuss. Easy to find! We came in around 12 pm, meaning that by the meal standards, this was considered a lunch. For starters, I had to go for the Cajun Hoppers, which are basically crickets and some spicy sauce or some such. Crickets were the biggest craze, so of course I had to try. They were good, the crickets themselves don't really taste much like anything, it's more of a texture thing.
Then for main course, I had to go with the Fat âLâ Cheese Steak. Seemed like a nice idea -- which it was -- although the box it came in, while a fun little idea and something I haven't seen before, was a bit difficult to eat from. Still, it was good. Nothing too special, but good regardless.
For dessert, I went with Flaming Alaska. Oreo crumble, meringue, raspberries.. What could go wrong? It was delicious and not too sweet. So over all, a good dessert for someone like me who doesn't really enjoy sweet things that much.
All in all we had a nice lunch. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who happens to be around the neighborhood and looking for good place to eat. I will surely be visiting again, at some...
Read moreA hip and somewhat expensive peculiar gentrification restaurant at an amazing location next to metro station.
When you're heading to Tietotie exit from this Aalto University metro station you'll find one fine looking restaurant that has a rather funny name. This name is coming from a brewery that is located very near here.
Obviously I was expecting a restaurant that sells products from this brewery but that was the first disappointment of this establishment - there were only two taps that sells their products. So why is this place called "Fat Lizard Restaurant" if there aren't even selling their own beers and other liquid beverages?
There's a really conflicting atmosphere here when you're comparing their commercials and brand identity to this establishment. It's a total opposite of what people have seen. I was expecting and rustic garage like place here. This looks like a fine dining restaurant and prices are exactly like that too - heavily on the expensive side for common people.
This wasn't the place I was expecting here. I'm really disappointed to this establishment and their prices too. It's clearly built to serve totally different customers than their brand in generally seem to hint.
I don't want to spend my time in a venue like this. If you're a member of gentrification generation then this place is for you. As a milieu and atmosphere this is a grand place to have a dinner or lunch with your friends and family or beloved ones. This place just isn't for regular Joe's where tap beer cost 8 Euros and cheapest pizza is...
Read moreThe beer lines are frequently contaminated with bacteria: It has now happened six times to us alone already that the beer we got tasted like bad yoghurt/sourmilk. It's different beers every time. Each time we are told that this is odd because the taps are "cleaned regularly" - I really doubt that.
On top of this all they now try to scam the customers? I bought the most expensive Lager from the tap on the menu, the bartender could not manage to draw it, offered me two other (cheaper) Lagers instead. I took one of them but asked for a refund as I had already paid for the more expensive one. They tried to argue that I got it at a discount because this (cheaper) one is 0.5 litres, and the prices on the menu are for 0.4 glasses. I later checked my credit card charges, and I had been charged for a 0.5 glass of the expensive one- but it was too late to go back there once more. The monetary difference was of course small, like less than 2 euros, but I felt so scammed...
Also, the security guy is the rudest person ever and once tried to kick us out 20 minutes before closing time - right after they sold us another drink - because apparently "closing time means that the staff leaves, not that the customer has to be out". He finally made us leave around 10 minutes before closing time.
Given that the pizza is one of the best in town, this is all highly disappointing. Used to...
