Don't need to say much, but I will! I'm in the area for business and the local employees recommended Wanha Fiskari. Restaurant was exquisite. The atmosphere may have come off as slightly stuffy and old fashioned, but the service was fantastic as was the food.
I'm not a big fish guy but I've been slowly moving my way toward finding comfort in seafood, especially at boutique seafood restaurants. I was uncertain if I should get the current fish of the day (Pike) over a safer smoked salmon option but the waitress assured me it would be great and guaranteed it with free salmon if I didn't like my meal. Ultimately, she offered giving me two half portions of Pike and Salmon. That is just unreal! I essentially got the sampler of what turned out to be two amazingly prepared fish, and this is coming from the non seafood guy. A colleague ordered the venison and thoroughly enjoyed his meal as well.
Menu options: The menu only had 3 options for fish and 3 options for meat dishes. While some people see this as a negative, I actually see it as a very big positive. First, as someone who normally orders steak at a seafood restaurant, it seemed like there was adequate representation for all food types (except maybe vegetarian!) even with a limited selection. Second, and MOST IMPORTANT, you really don't want the opposite, where you have TOO MANY menu options and end up with a "jack of all trades, master of none" result. I've come to find that the boutique restaurants with a very limited menu usually end up excelling in what they do serve. And tonight they hit it out of the park. Theory validated.
Dessert was also excellent. Got the "three way" of panna cotta, ice cream, and chocolate mousse pie/cake. After all was done, I felt satisfied but not stuffed. Given I had dessert, that was the best case scenario...
Read moreI visited this restaurant the previous week and was positively surprised by the quality of food and service. The young waitress was both helpful and attentive. Also, communication in proper English was not a problem. The interior gives you the sense of the place where time has stopped, which was a unique experience, in a way. I ordered an appetizer and the catch of the day. The appetizer was a mix of different fishes which was nice, but I would work on the presentation. The main course was outstanding. I ordered my fish with a spectacular lemon risotto. I have not had such a tasty main course in a while. I tend to complain about Finnish restaurants, but not in this case. I highly recommend dining here, pricy,...
Read moreI visited Wanha Fiskari with my Finnish colleagues, and it was a memorable experience. The smoked salmon was outstanding — rich in flavor with a deep smoky aroma that left a lasting impression. The desserts were also delightful, balancing the meal perfectly. As a visitor from Korea, I truly enjoyed the authentic Finnish touch in both the food and the atmosphere. Highly...
