We’ve been coming to Les Tourelles since 10 years or so with both friends and family. It’s a lovely hotel, with great rooms and views. The restaurant is good too and we’ve always been treated nicely. And even though this year the restaurant staff was nice as always, both the receptionist and housekeeping staff, have ruined our stay. ||||What we experienced:||||1) One of the ladies of housekeeping is also in charge of seating people at breakfast. She immediately treated us as if we should be happy to even be there, instead of welcoming us nicely. Then, when queuing for the breakfast buffet, she made some nasty remarks about us not abiding by the Corona rules in place... which was simply a case of us not immediately understanding what the rules were. Result: we didn't feel welcome at all. ||||2) As a couple we stayed in a room with an extra bed, something we did not ask for and we assumed it would be OK to put some clothes and other items on the third bed. One of us also sat/layed down on that third bed for a bit, but of course - being a young, recently engaged couple - we slept in the big king size bed so we did not actually use that bed. Then at breakfast the next day, that same awful lady we described above looked at us and asked: 'You are three, right?' We of course answered 'no' as we were just with the two of us, as they also could have noticed at breakfast the day before, and at dinner the two nights before. She responded, in a very unkind and distrusting way, that there might then have been a 'mistake'. Then, when we were getting our breakfast, she circled around us, seemingly checking if we were really getting breakfast only for two people and not three... as if we would have lied to them. Very weird and unpleasant situation to start the day with. ||||3) When we went to check out and to pay our final bill, I noted to the lady at the reception that the breakfast lady had made a funny remark of us seemingly being 'three’. The receptionist, also not the nicest, responded that housekeeping had noted that the third bed had been slept in and that we had to pay for the use of that bed. She added that there is a note in the room that says that you have to pay for the use of the third bed. ||||When I told her that we had only used that bed as a bench/couch and that we were not aware of their policy regarding the use of that third bed (we didn’t notice the note in the room), the only thing she did was repeat 10 times what their policy is and that we had to pay extra, not showing any client friendliness/empathy and most disappointing of all: giving us the impression that she thought we were lying. Meanwhile the awful breakfast lady was again circling around us, telling the receptionist to call the manager and to not give in... SUCH a weird situation! As if we were criminals. ||I eventually had to ask the breakfast lady to leave us alone and deal with this with the receptionist. Only then she sort of left, still standing in the hall way looking at us/listening to the conversation. ||||Only after me repeatedly asking to speak to the manager, the receptionist went to get him. The manager, a very very nice and normal guy, was extremely understanding and friendly. He erased the extra costs and apologised for the behaviour of the breakfast lady.||||Conclusion: ||Let me be clear, this issue was not about money, it was about being treated in a way you want to be treated when you’re on holidays and spend your free time somewhere. We could have gone anywhere else, but we picked Les Tourelles due to fond memories we have. We even planned our trip according to their availability of that week.||Due to what happened, after spending two days (incl. 2 dinners, 2 breakfasts and 2 apéros) at Les Tourelles, I have mixed feelings about the place. Yes, of course it’s still the lovely hotel that I have been visiting since my childhood and the manager has solved our issue in a professional and kind way. Nevertheless the breakfast lady and the receptionist’s behaviour / way of dealing with us have taken away the magic the hotel had for me and made us regret going there this year. ||||Suggestions to the manager:||- Change the receptionist to someone who is fit for the job/ who wants to be there (we are not the only ones complaining!)||- Don’t let that cleaning lady deal with the breakfast seating, but let some of the nice restaurant staff take care of it. She should not have any contact with clients whatsoever.||- Get rid of the 3rd bed policy when you rent the room to a couple OR be extremely clear about it (e.g. put a sticker on the bed or smt, or don’t put any sheets on it) to...
Read moreI have known this place for at least 25 years but now the formula just seems a bit tired. Still love the decor which has stayed exactly the same with shades of Farrow & Ball. However the guest entrance and reception no longer feel fit for purpose as there is nowhere to stand. No one was on reception when we arrived despite phoning ahead to say when we would arrive and the barman had to disappear and find someone. Tiny scraps of paper with wifi passwords and door codes seemed very unprofessional. The new positioning of the sitting room seems to be a mistake as one of the joys was a view of the bay. Our room was tiny but pleasant, in fact the bathroom was bigger than the bedroom and the armchair precluded the use of the wardrobe. The bed was comfortable but one flat pillow was insufficient. The view of the bay was beautiful though. The dinner was very disappointing, starters okay and desserts acceptable but mains were nasty. My fish special was anything but. A dish of Three small bits of fish in a floury bechamel and a couple of carrots that is then unsuccessfully passed through a microwave does not justify an extra charge on a set menu. All 3 friends left half of their fish as they did not enjoy it.|The breakfast was okay but at 15€ per person really nothing special. Only one juice (apple, don’t like it) eggs you have to boil yourself and self-catering coffee all point to cost-saving measures. |The previous management team made this place a destination experience but it doesn’t feel that way now. I probably wouldn’t bother again, and I feel...
