I'm not usually one to complain about hotels, but I felt so strongly about writing a review I've created a TripAdvisor account just to write this! We had read good things about the hotel on review sites and in TripAdvisor comments. We don't consider these to be accurate - we were really dissapointed with our stay and it put a dampener on our trip. ||The hotel is really basic for the room rate you're paying. Whilst Val is extremely expensive these days generally, there seem to a be a number of other hotels in the price range where you're getting a lot more for your money. The primary pull factor you're paying for here is the location, which is excellent (albeit can be very loud at night and in the early hours being on the centre of the main "strip"). The spa is also a standout factor and has clearly received a lot of investment. ||Unfortunately there are a number of negatives to this hotel which would lead us to strongly recommend looking elsewhere:||- We stayed in an entry level room, which is tiny and extremely basic for the price point. The bathrooms are extremely outdated and inefficient - our shower regularly leaked everywhere. There is no bath and they are poorly designed. The room itself was so small it could barely fit our luggage. The room did not contain a kettle, coffee machine or any other similar amenities which should be (and are) included in any 4 star hotel at this price point. When asking about this we were told only the more premium rooms have kettles - there was no effort to provide us with one despite asking. This is hardly a large ask and is a basic point of most hotel rooms. ||- The beds are the most uncomfortable we have ever stayed in in a hotel (and we travel a lot). We also heard other guests complaining about the mattresses. They were bad enough that we considered moving hotels as we were getting no sleep / serious back issues. After a lot of complaining (which we would never usually do) the reception put us in a suite for our final night (with no assurance the bed would be any better). Whilst a reasonable gesture, the mattress was equally terrible. I can't imagine paying full price for one of these rooms - they are again very dated and poorly designed. ||- Whilst the food at dinner was a good standard, there was only one other cover during the night we are in the restaurant. Other restaurants at hotels / in the town were fully booked when we went. Whilst you may read this is an exceptional / much desired restaurant, the reality is that it's not. ||We had hoped given the price we were paying we would stay in a middle / top range hotel in Val. In fact, this was more basic than most hotels we have stayed in at much cheaper price points when skiing. The main draw is the location and the nice bar. We were really dissapointed and mostly avoided the hotel as much as we could (which isn't the worst thing on a ski holiday, but we had hoped it would be a nice place to relax!). ||I'd reccomend looking elsewhere at either a more expensive hotel or a rented accommodation. Don't be a victim of the middle price point like we...

Read moreGood hotel located in the center with everything within a short walk. The hotel's SPA is nice. The breakfast is ok, but not more.
I had two different rooms during my stay. The first room was large with sofas and tables. The other room was so small that there was no room for my suitcase. The shower was a big step up which made it dangerous to get in and out on a wet floor. When the floor was raised, the ceiling height in the shower was only 195cm. I hit my head a couple of times because there was a beam in the ceiling in the shower even though I'm only 185cm.
I was still happy with the hotel until I tried the restaurant. As a starter, I ate a soup consisting of flour and water with some croutons, bacon cubes and some foie gras on top. I ate the stuff on top, but left the rest. The white geg was terrible.
As a main course, I ordered a medium entrecote along with a glass of strong full body red wine.
In addition to a plate of entrecote and vegetables, came a bowl of potato croquettes and a sawed-up leg with bone marrow.
The meat was wrongly cut with the grain in the wrong direction, full of tendons and hard as an old shoe sole. The vegetables were overcooked and slimy. The bone with marrow tasted only of slime and grease. The red wine was quite bland and not on par with what we got in other restaurants in a glass.
The whole dinner was the worst I've ever had, and it was expensive. €83 for starter, main course and two glasses of bad wine.
There are many restaurants in Val dÍsere where you get a much better dinner for...
