La Corniche — Restaurant in Albertville

We came here on the final evening of our ski holiday. It was such an unpleasant end to our trip - one of the worst restaurant experiences in my life. The food was mediocre / average at best but what horrified us was the service and how awfully they yelled at us.

For our mains, we ordered 3 steaks (1 rare, 2 medium rare). All three came well done or nearly burnt (grey inside, burnt outside at some parts) - not what you expect from a 35 euro steak. When we asked for them to be re-done (in some French that we can speak), the waitress threw us a dirty look and tried to tell us this was how they did steaks in France. I have travelled multiple times to and lived for nearly a year in France - I have never eaten such a steak. She begrudgingly took it away and replaced it.

Our next shock came when the bill arrived. They had charged us for an additional steak. When we pointed this out, she told us is because they had redo the steaks - they literally snuck it into the bill without even telling us! Also, why are we paying for their poor cooking / incorrect order?

The lady owner then comes over and proceeds to aggressively YELL at us when we told her we will pay for everything but the additional steak. At one point she even yelled at us while waving her finger rudely: “THIS IS FRANCE, WE SPEAK ONLY FRENCH!” (as we speak only basic conversational French and had asked her to clarify some of the things she was yelling at us in English).

She then threatens to call the police on us - which we agree as in principle, we did not do anything wrong. The police come, to which lady owner has a private conversation outside with them. The end of the night sees us paying all of it, as the nice policeman kindly explained that his hands are tied, and while he agreed this restaurant’s behaviour was unacceptable, we had to pay (or he had to take us to the station). He even recommended we write a review of our experience (hence this long review).

This was one of the nastiest restaurant experiences I’ve had in my life. It was horrifying and humiliating. Completely wrecked our mood and evening.

Strongly recommend you take your money to another restaurant that actually cooks better standard of French food and does business with...

We had dinner here with a bunch of friends. The service was poor and the kitchen took no pride in the food they served. We ordered 3 steaks - 1 rare, 2 medium-rare. As the steaks were overcooked (they came well done) they were sent back to the kitchen. At the end of the meal the restaurant proceeded to charge the table for 4 steaks (instead of 3) on the basis that they had to dispose of the steaks which were sent back.

When we pointed out the discrepancy in the bill and politely asked for it to be amended, the staffed refused, raised her voice and demanded that we (tourists who could speak/understand limited French) speak in French as we were in France. She then proceeded to call the police on us for a dispute over the bill. That was outright bullying and truly shocking. It was a horrific experience and would...

Je suis venu ici la semaine dernière avec quelques amis et 3 d'entre nous ont commandé le steak (vers €32.50 pp), 1 saignant et 2 au point. Les 2 au points sont venus incinérer et étaient totalement gris au centre et on a demandé à la serveuse de changer les 2 au points. Elle était d'accord et nous pas dit qu'on doit payer pour changer.

Quand on a commandé pour l'addition, le restaurant nous a facturé 4 steaks. Choque, mon fiancee a demandé en anglais (on a tous étrangers) aux propriétaires pourquoi et la propriétaire féminine lui a crié, "You're in France, speak French"! Mon français est pas assez bon pour expliquer comment je me sentais en ce moment. Ensuite, je leur ai dit en français (à la surprise des propriétaires) que les 2 steaks étaient trop cuits et qu’on les avait renvoyés. Mais la propriétaire féminine m'a dit qu’il n’y avait que "2 types de steaks en France" - saignant et au point... Je leur ai demandé pourquoi pas bleu et bien cuit? Quand elle a réalisé qu’elle pouvait pas me mentir, elle est partie et le propriétaire masculin m'a dit qu'il était normal de charger pour 1 steak quand ils jetons 2 steaks "dans la poubelle"?!? Changer d'histoire! Aussi, depuis quand ça se fait en France?!

On a refusé de payer pour le steak supplémentaire et la propriétaire féminine a appelé la police! Le propriétaire masculin m'a parlé sur le côté et répété qu’ils ont jeté 2 et on doit payer pour 1. Je lui ai dit que c’était injuste qu'on doit payer pour leurs erreurs.

La police était très polie et nous parlions anglais. Cependant, ils ont dit que notre meilleure option était de payer "or they had no choice but to bring us to jail" mais fait intéressant, ils ont suggéré que nous laissions de mauvais avis tripadvisor et Google.
