We arrived at 1930 for our last meal Of the week in what was expected to be a lovely restaurant. Apparently we were late for a 1915hr booking which we had not realised. This we apologised for twice. The waitress sat us - we were the first people in the restaurant. We were offered the wine menu and told there were only two types of red by the glass left. One only had one glass amount left. We were hurried to select our food because apparently a table of 7 were coming in shortly. We were read out the menu from a black board written in French, we were left for 2minutes to decide but it took some time to recall what everything was. The waitress said because we were late we would have to order quickly or we would be behind the next table. ( only 2tables in the restaurant) We both ordered the duck and asked for it medium rare. Also asked whether this was a good size meal as we weren’t having starters to which the waitress said yes. By this time it was around 1945. We were told the duck would be 20 minutes. Not offered any bread whilst we sat. We began to start wondering where our food was and at 2025 I asked the waitress where the food was as she had explained it would take 20 minutes as we weren’t having starters. She said we were late so it would “come when it comes”. This was quite rude in my opinion but she was now busier with several other tables and carting this black board around. I only saw her and 2 kitchen staff in total. I sat back down and the food arrived at 20.39. 7 minutes passed before my famished partner had almost finished the food before I said she had not come back to check it the food was ok. We both agreed the duck was not medium rare and quite tough to chew. It came with a few bits on the side but nothing substantial and a basket of bread no butte. As I felt the duck was not medium rare and we had waited so long and the waitress was rude, after 7 minutes I had to go up to the desk. I explained to the waitress the food was tough and she replied she felt it was medium rare and shrugged her shoulders. No apology . I said I would have to eat it because we were so hungry. We finished by 20:50 and sat looking obviously unimpressed and the waitress continued to serve other people who appeared to be having a lovely time. This ruined our last night Completely. The waitress service was awfully rude especially considering the complaint she offered no apology. She returned to clear the plates and said nothing. She returned after to ask if we wanted anything else which my partner replied no at 20:58. The food looked pretty and the sides tasty but the over cooked tough duck and service made the experience feel very rushed and neglected. Shame. Further to this review which I posted immediately. The bill - I asked to speak to the manager who turned out to be one of the French female kitchen staff who asked her colleague to translate. I was told that as I ate the food so had to pay or they’d report me to the police. I explained the above and the assistant chef said they “can’t cook duck medium rare”. Following this the waitress came back and she said that I ordered the food medium. I confronted her and reminded her I actually re-repeated the order when she left so to make sure she heard medium rare and she denied this happened entirely. I pointed out she had lied. I also explained she was rude and she said she thought because I asked where the food was that I was rude and that’s the service I then deserved. The manager did not seem to believe me over the waitress and then took a picture of my face if I refused to pay. I explained it was our last night in France and I have precious experience in waitressing and this service was appalling followed by the manager not doing a single thing to apologise. Advise - Make sure you record the time you arrive when your food comes out tough and late. Their tills are also 15minutes incorrect. Worth recording what you order if they deny it at the end and basically threaten you to pay if you didn’t get what you ordered. Dreadful experience. Do...
