The chef/owner is very welcoming and grateful to his guests; you can tell because he works hard to make you feel comfortable and to explain the menu items should you have any questions. My boyfriend and I were the first to arrive for dinner service along with another couple. At first it seems like a small restaurant but there is another dining room upstairs along with the toilet. Although it was not very busy when we ate, I'm sure they need the extra space up there because the food was delicious and obviously prepared with care. I am vegan, my boyfriend is not; the chef has a complete menu for both meat eaters and vegetarians, and is able to adjust items to make them vegan at your request. There are very few restaurants in Albi, if any besides this charming eatery, that cater to vegans. I highly recommend giving this place a try, whether you are vegan or not! In this case, it was a perfect place for us to spend a nice meal together, with spacious dining and some modern music playing in the background. He also speaks English which helped in explaining some of the menu items in more detail to me, someone who speaks French but is not completely fluent. I hope this review...
Read moreCharming little restaurant run by a husband & wife - we ate here because I’m vegetarian and Papillon offered a vegetarian menu (a rarity in France!). My meal was perfectly pleasant - nothing exceptional (I had a salad followed by grilled vegetables and then dessert) but nice enough and I’m generally very grateful to be catered for in France! My partner had the escargots followed by the cassoulet - which was huge and full of all varieties of meat (we counted two types of saucisson, duck, chicken, kidney and a few more unidentified bits). The service was wonderful - monsieur Papillon is very charming as other diners mentioned, and made every effort to entertain (we even got a little dance!) A nice little place, certainly worth a visit if you’re veggie/vegan! It’s on the pricier side at €25 for the set menu, but not extortionate...
Read moreThis place was absolutely amazing - to the hospitality of the staff first and foremost (the owner/chef and his waitress were AWESOME), to the food, to the house wine, to the PRICES - it was the best and most authentic French experience we’ve had while visiting France (and we’ve been to many places across the country on this trip)! Highly recommend if you want a quaint and comfortable atmosphere and a very good home-cooked meal. I ordered the goat cheese salad as an appetizer and the fish of the day - shown below…it...
