★★★★★ A Hidden Culinary Gem in the Alps!
We stumbled upon this incredible restaurant in the charming village of Le Grand Bernard, and I can confidently say it was the best meal I have ever had in France. Nestled in the heart of the Alps, this hidden gem exceeded every expectation—from the warm, welcoming atmosphere to the exceptional cuisine that could rival any top Parisian establishment.
The moment we took our first bite, it was clear that we were in the hands of a true master. The head chef, formerly of a nearby Michelin-starred restaurant, has brought his expertise and passion to this intimate dining spot, and it shows in every dish. Each plate was beautifully presented, bursting with flavor, and crafted with an attention to detail that is rare to find outside the world of fine dining.
Surprisingly, we were the only guests in the restaurant that evening, which felt like an absolute privilege—but we doubt that will be the case for long. Once word spreads about the standard of food being served here, this place is bound to become one of the most sought-after dining destinations in the region.
From the perfectly cooked meats to the most delicate sauces and locally sourced ingredients, every course was an experience in itself. The wine pairing was equally spectacular, with a selection that perfectly complemented the meal.
We felt incredibly lucky to have discovered this place—an unforgettable dining experience in the most unexpected of locations. If you find yourself anywhere near Le Grand Bernard, do not miss the opportunity to eat here. This restaurant is an absolute must-visit for...
Read moreWe live about 25 minutes drive away from this restaurant but many of our local go-tos are closed at this time of year. With friends visiting France for the first time we were eager to find a good restaurant in our alpine environment. A local friend - a chef - recommended us to Le Cent 74. On arrival, we were impressed by the lovely ambiance of the decor and lighting. However we weren't made to feel welcome. The gentleman serving us seemed stressed and appeared to have difficulty finding our reservation even though I had spoken to the restaurant only 2 hours before - we had booked online for 7:30pm but at 6pm I had phoned to change the time to 8pm due to the later than anticipated arrival of our guests from NZ. There were only 3 other tables seated throughout our evening but our server remained very brisk and dismissive the entire time. I would be prepared to try this place again but unfortunately my husband is not, purely due to the disposition of the server. He rightly says, that for a similar drive time we have other options to have both excellent food and service. I don't recommend against this restaurant, but if you try it I hope you have a warmer...
Read moreThe food here is lovely! The flavours were a breath of fresh air in Le Grand Bornand. The service, however, lacked. The blonde lady was wonderful and made us feel very welcome, the brown hair glasses lady was rude though, acted inconvenienced to “change” an order even though she just wasn’t listening. Also a dessert was ordered and took them 15 minutes of waiting to explain that they had run out.
The staff were really busy. It looked like they were understaffed.
In other feedback, the overhead down lights are very bright and make what would have been quite a sophisticated restaurant for the village look like a hotel canteen.
Hope this place can continue to iron out the teething problems, keep their menu fresh and keep providing a much needed alternative to the traditional...
